  1. Hey we're all Americans. You guys get to call yourselves "Canadians", we really don't have a proper name so we just sort of took Americans. Should it be United Staters? Anyways Congrats to you up North. Eric
  2. Don, you two have to be related!! What did your Daddy do? Traveling salesman?? Eric
  3. Looks like a work of art. I can see a three way race somewhere down the road. More pics of the rest of the car would be great. Eric
  4. Norm, Did I see you in line waiting for the new Ipod? , I am just getting used to the idae of a cell phone. I had to be told many times that I was to leave it on or I wouldn't get calls. Eric
  5. Lou, now you're talking !! I will check that out. Thanks. Eric
  6. Shel, I might as well replace the rest of it. The front portion looked tough. The cheap little bender I used on the line from pump to carb was sure crappy. You can not make real tight bands. (I couldn't) Thanks, Eric
  7. Dave, What Brand? and where did you get it? I would like to use my Sirius radio. I guess i would need for an Fm radio to. Would this power both? Thanks, Eric
  8. Shel did you have your car on a hoist when you changed all of your lines? I can't imagine crawling under there to figure out where they go. Eric
  9. Looks good, eric
  10. Pat, thanks for the reminder. I feel guilty!! I have meant to in the past. It looks easy, I don't have a Paypal account which I see is no problem. Eric
  11. Shel, You know I remember you saying that before. I completely forgot about it. With all of my troubles trying to figure out where the lines were blocked and they weren't just a failed fuel pump. The line from the tank almost imediately goes up. Should it be level? I had a filter right before the pump but when I replaced the pump I moved it in front of the carb. Access isn't very good right in front of the fuel pump. I will have to find a place towards the rear. Thanks Shel. PS A straining funnel that one could use as he filled the tank, would that be of any benefit? With a sealed tank, what sort of debris could get into the tank? Thanks, eric
  12. Medford, that was it. It was hot and I had been driving for a long time. I usually pick up Hwy 60 but I35 to I90 I think is faster. Eric
  13. Ed, I came through the Twin Cities on Tuesday. I was in a hurry to get home, hit I 35 at about 7:00, still some heavy traffic at times. Just south of the cities, there was a 47/48 Chrysler coupe parked on the West side of the interstate for sale. Eric
  14. Fred, I keep following your saga and it reminded me a bit of mine. I got great advice here but sometimes the worse case scenario is thrown in and that really gets one worried. I envisioned my car sucking up the tank sealant!! Fargo is a long ways off. I haven't taken it out for a spin yet but will later today. keep at it, you'll get there. I was at first thinking Don was telling me to keep the day job because of my mechanical skills!! (Which would be good advice) Now attacking my literary skills, that hurts. I am a nutural when it comes to bad writing. It ranks right there with my spelling skills. Eric
  15. I have the special skill to write poorly on purpose and even when not trying. This last sentence proves it. Eric
  16. I saw an ad for a 56 Caddy 2 door, $4500 in a local paper. I went and looked. The car was a good runner with a fair interior but a real rough body. Great to see but out of my league. The guy was a character. Within the city we have almost rural areas. He lived on this acerage and had a nice barn/garage. In the corner on a stand was a 218 nicely painted. The stand was a welded up display item with a small fuel tank and a radiator. He said he tried to sell it for $200 and had no takers. I am thinking about buying it. Couldn't hurt to have an extra. He said it ran and he had rebuilt it years ago. Not sure where I will put it. How much does one of these weigh? Thanks, Eric
  17. First it was the gas tank, then low power, then nada. I narrowed it down to my fuel pump.(I was hoping I diagnosed this correctly). I installed the new fuel pump today. I had to replace one of the brass fittings so I got up the nerve to replace the fuel line from the pump to the carb. I wanted a fuel filter near the carb where I could easily access it. Those cheap benders are just that and/or I am really bad at bending tubing. I got it done though. I noticed when I pulled my old pump that it seemed to work but the new pump's spring is so still that I can barely squeeze it. So the old one was bad. More hope that I was headed down the right path. All hooked up no leaks and it runs!! no stuttering. I will test drive it tomorrow to see if I really got somewhere. I will paint the heat shield silver. So far I have painted most of items I have taken off of the car as a reminder to where I have been. Eric
  18. The hum is most likely a filter capacitor. I am not sure what the other object is that you are talking about is. Eric
  19. Maybe another family member is interested in it? Search Ebay for past sales of similar cars for base line. You might make more selling it peice by peice if you had the time. Good Luck Eric
  20. Robin, your car sure looks good. How much more get up and go does it have with the engine up-grades? I think you are in the right area for Rockabilly. I am a big fan of Robert Gordon and Jonny Burnette &trio. The list could go on. When all of those guys like Carl Perkins were being put aside here, many English bands covered them. Your car looks good out on the open. My son is doing an internship in London this Summer. He doesn't have a lot of interest in old cars, I wish I was there tooling around. Eric
  21. Thanks for the pictures. There were some great cars. Besides all of the Mopars ,the little Austin was really cool. Eric
  22. Well, I couldn't wait so I went ahead and used a gas can as the supply to the fuel pump. I turned the engine over 12-16 times and didn't get a tablespoon of gas. So maybe the pump is shot. The timing of its failure sure was bad. I was thinking I had boogered up something. Eric
  23. Greg, I took off the bottom cover. The screen and bolt were pretty clean. I re-installed them and again turned it over to see how much fuel I was getting. This time none. I will try again tomorrow with the hose in the gas can. Either the pump has died or there is some blockage between my tank and the pump. The air passed through fine and it definitely flows from the tank fine. Don, I don't think I have ever used the ethonol (sp?) in my car. But I did replace the short rubber peices between the pump and gas line and between the tank and gas line. I really don't want to replace all of the steel line in the car. I don't think it would be a terrible job if I had the car really off the ground. The line goes all over the place!! Eric
  24. I undid the line at the tank and before the fuel pump. I used an air hose and blew through the line and there didn't seem to be any obstruction. I stuck 3' of hose into a can of gas, stuck that on the supply side of the pump, put a hose on the outlet side, undid the coil and cranked it over for maybe 20 sec.s ? There might have been enough to fill the carb. I hooked everything back up and now I don't seem to be getting any gas to the carb? I tried turning it over with the gas cap off, no difference. I will try to disconnect the line from the pump to the carb next to see if anything at all flows. I have to charge the battery. I think the gas fumes are getting to me. Eric
