Will be waiting to see the finished wheels with tires actually mounted on the car. What rear end did you install?
-
The car in the ad is a 4 door. The other one shown above is a coupe......obviously not same vehicle,

Oh----regarding any spare or duplicate parts...........I would advise making a space in the corner to store them as this old car stuff gets tougher to find all the time. And prices being asked on e-bay and at swap meets continue to rise....some have gotten ridiculous. I still have some small items gotten in junkyards back in the 1970s, and they come in handy on occasion. So don't be too hasty.

Yes....I was also wondering how or where you are "sending off" for YOM plates. Missouri has the "historic/antique vehicle" plates issued by the License Bureau. And they will take an old 1947 plate, issued in 1947, and run the numbers to see if they are being currently used by anyone else or reported stolen......and if all is OK, they will assign that plate to you as a YOM.

The chrome on some of those looks very good in the pics. It's good there are still some places like that as most have disappeared around here. I'm sure the activity and volume are not as much as a late model salvage. Thanks for the pics.

There is no frame...........only the lens. The frame was attached to the biz coupe......I just held the lens up to it. -

I first, for the pictures, held it up to the business coupe. Also held it up to this fourdoor.........looked right for it too............. -
Right, guys.........no rear quarter windows (referred to as blind quarters)........... Doors and glass unique to convertible. Trunk lid for convert actually has a separate part number, but a business coupe one might work. One from the two seat coupe definitely will not fit. Seat covers and door panels in convertibles are usually different from other models. Converts came with either cloth (like mine) or leather seats, with leather door panels. The back seat is a bit smaller due to the side panels being "bowed out" in order to house the top framework. Front and rear fenders and hood will work from any other model. Exterior trim from either coupe should work. The windshield in a ragtop is shorter than others and the wipers have chrome stand-up bases unique to them and the woody. Very hard to find.....and fairly costly if you do.

Went to the Springfield swap yesterday........all I could find for a P15 was a couple of headlight rings, and a couple aftermarket replacement taillight lenses. Found a couple Chrysler wire wheel center caps that had been painted black. May or may not have decent chrome underneath. Also found one plastic blue dot taillight lense that I think fits a 50 or 51 Plymouth. It's scuffed a little but may be usable with some shining up. If anyone needs it, PM me. Will be pretty cheap. It looks like the 50 and 51 lenses are similar, or the same. But not sure. I held it up to a 50 light on a car for sale and it appeared it would fit. -

h k estes just called me from the MoKan Dragway and the HAMB drags. As he said above, his car is temporarily out of commission so he flew up here and rented a car. I drove thru the parking lot of the Holiday Inn late last night (Fri) and there was the usual group of rods and a few customs from all over the country. Kirk said "moose", from Massachusetts, is here with his Mopar flathead six powered Model A two door to run at the drags. He's going to get me his phone number so I can talk to him. Always nice to visit with other forum members......even if only by phone. We had an event in another town to attend last night and have a dance at the Elks lodge tonight.......so not having much time to visit and look for the drags this year. -
Also......the original paint is often still in good condition behind and underneath things like door panels, windlace, or where a fender bolts to the car.....where it's been protected from sunlight and the elements.

Just a reminder to anyone interested. I know a certain few have turned up in Springfield in the past. Always a pleasure to meet another forum member. My friend Nils and I plan to go on Friday. If anyone is going to the swap, you can PM me for my cell number. This is also the weekend for the HAMB Drags National at MoKan speedway north of Joplin. As usual, there will be a bunch of cars at the host hotel, Holiday Inn, just off of Interstate 44. The drags will take place on Saturday afternoon/evening. The hot rod folks come here from all over the country. -
How To Have A Weeks Worth Of Fun In 3 Days
BobT-47P15 replied to Don Coatney's topic in P15-D24 Forum
Does sound like a fun trip. Don't believe you will go thru my neck of the woods in southwest Missouri. So will just have to look at the pictures and read the stories. -
Yep.........looks like a 42 to me.......on c list. The other one certainly resembles a P15. Sometimes people hear stories about what a car is, they believe it, and try to tell others that's what it is. One would probably want to prove the seller wrong.....by serial number.

Easy For The Young Guys/harder For The Old Guys
BobT-47P15 replied to larryconnors's topic in P15-D24 Forum
My first car, in 1959, was a 47 Chevy Fleetline two door fastback. Bought my first P15 coupe for $35 in 1962. During college had a nice 54 Chevy 210 two door, preceeded by a pink/white 54 Plymouth sedan (not such a great car). Had cars during college like a 50 Dodge Wayfarer convertible, 57 Ford convertible, 52 Dodge two door fastback, 53 Chevy business coupe, 59 Chevy Impala two door hardtop. In 1972 I found my 47 P15 convertible after looking for quite a while. Still have it, of course. During the 70s, bought and sold a bunch of 40s and 50s Mopars that you could find in people's back yards or driveways for a couple hundred bucks. The one that got away, that I really would like to have had.......a 47 Dodge convertible, yellow with maroon interior. I probably would still have it today, but, ah well........... A couple cars I had in the 80s were a 1960 Bonneville convertible and a 67 Ford Galaxie XL convertible.... wouldn't mind having them again. And there were others. Current drivers at our house are my 05 Dodge Caravan and her 08 Lexus is250 sedan. So......there have been a bunch come and go, but I'm happy with the old Plymouth ragtop. One of these days, the son in law will finish working on it and it will be on the road again. -
I bought a small batch of old aftermarket oil filters from a friend....and each one came with a new lid gasket. If those gaskets don't fit tight or right, the filter will definitely spray oil all over your engine compartment.......(don't ask how I know.)

Yes, my trunk handle is either in the open or closed position and stays there. So, guess I've been fortunate to have a correctly working latch. Since the exterior chrome trunk handle is the same on many 40s Mopars.....i wonder if the latch part is the same size and shape on all brands and can be switched between them for repair purposes.
-
Welcome.........any pics of the car itself? As a suggestion............two of the first things to invest in are a Service/repair manual and a Parts manual.......both available in reprint and sometimes good originals on E-bay. Keep us posted on your doings.

I think the Tanks, Inc units fit pretty well......are just "ugly"......don't much resemble an original tank. Wish someone would make a better looking tank. It shouldn't be too difficult as there are many aftermarket replacement tanks available for other cars. Perhaps they don't feel there would be enough demand. I will be needing to buy a new one soon I think. I looked at a catalog of tanks from O'Reilly auto stores.....as I recall a certain Ford tank was similar size and look, but the filler neck would have to be relocated. Ah well.............

I once owned this 54 Plym wagon. The guy who bought it from me, basically let it sit for 25 years under a carport and it deteriorated from a nice driver to a rusty vehicle with broken glass and no motor. He was going to rebuild the motor. In addition, this car even had overdrive. In the picture, it is in the hands of an area fellow who deals old cars and parts. He thought the buyer took it to the Kansas City area......so it may reappear some day in improved condition.

The coupe looks like a Mopar item to me. The truck might be made by Cushman.
-
I guess time will tell if their idea succeeds.

I see older people wearing those glasses.......sometimes I think they are prescribed following cataract surgery. Not sure what other benefits they offer after a period of healing time....except you can wear them over regular glasses and don't have to change to shades or clip some on, on a sunny day. I do wonder whether they restrict the peripherial vision in regard to traffic.

Just what I was thinking, Tod. More things to go on the fritz. That is a beautiful car, and should make a fun cruiser. Congratulations Joe.
