  2. David Erb wrote an article about the heat riser. It won't fix your spring, but may give helpful info: http://dodgepilothouseclub.org/know/riser/riser.htm

  4. I think part of it has to do with state sales tax and registration
  5. And on top of that you have to pay for transportation. Some of them won't let you drive it away from the auction on your own.
  6. The 1948 - 52 pilot-house trucks used oak, though not the most expensive grade. It was always painted black, never natural color. In 53 Dodge went to hard yellow pine. Personally I can't see covering beautiful wood with paint and perfer the natural pattern and color of the wood to show.
  7. I had 4 red oak boards already. Had to buy two more at Home Depot. Cost me $85.00 for two boards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was $6.71 per foot.
  8. There are a few good old ones occasionally, but they don't get televised: This 51 pilot-house showed up at the Scottsdale auction this year and sold for $23,100. The 57 sweptline sold for in Scottsdale for $62,700:

  17. You heat up a small section and then quench it quickly with water. Here's an article that mentions it: http://www.hotrod.com/howto/hrdp_0607_dents/heat_shrink.html Google around for "metal shrinking" and you'll find plenty of info.
  18. Mine are straight without the fenders. I've seen them bow out because of the weight from the fenders over 60 years which means you'll have to shrink the metal Haven't seen them bow in. Can you temporarily hang a fender and see if it straightens?
  19. Love the pictures. Really love the line drawing. Tell him to keep at it and share some more.
