  1. Ah, so that's what the 3-spd column is for! Glad to see it going to good use! With the disc brakes, do you plan on installing a firewall-mounted booster/master cylinder (as your current brake pedal setup will go bye-bye with the auto tranny)?
  2. To conclude... Finally got to drill the new pin hole today. All done!
  3. She shounds like she's purring pretty good in your video...nice. I had the same problem with the timing last rebuild. I just installed my oil pump today on the new motor and made sure it lined up with #1 on the dizzy @ TDC. This thread reminded me to take care when doing so...
  4. Maybe he's a fan of the "Real Housewives of Orange County" TV show...? http://onlineslangdictionary.com/meaning-definition-of/bolt-ons
  5. You have to remove the woodruff key from the shaft first. It'll come out with a screwdriver or drift with some gentle tapping. The clutch pedal will then slide right off. Seeing as how your floor boards are completely gone, the brake pedal can tilt forward and slide off too.
  6. My '53 has handles like your pic on the left.
  7. I'd like to get a new plate as mine is wasted...but the number doesn't match the frame. I wonder if the DMV would allow the VIN to be changed to the "correct" VIN if you show them the frame stamping?
  8. Until the A's win it, I'm on the Giants bandwagon. Looking forward to the celebratory parade in SF this week! Too bad they had a bunch of fires and vandalism last night, though. At least it didn't get as bad as Philly had it when they won.
  9. It looks like the vin plate says B-3C-116. '52 or '51? It's clean, but too glossy in many areas and the wide whites...well, I think we all agree on them. Overall a very nice truck, though.
  10. Always appreciate pics like these. Don't be shy - keep 'em coming! It would be cool to have a 2013 calendar made for the club featuring all big trucks 1 ton and up!
  11. Funny thing...was just filling up my glass and a bunch of deer 'raisins' popped out...
  12. The Hetch Hetchy water then gets piped to Crystal Springs reservoir, just over the hill from here. In addition to SF city, the SF peninsula communities also get the benefits of this water supply, and the quality is great. For this reason I never have to buy bottled water. Can't beat Sierra snow melt!
  13. The Melling kit comes with a new drive gear. The shaft was pressed out of the pump body by a drift touching the end of the shaft inside the gear, so no teeth are contacted in any way. Pressing on the new gear wasn't too bad, just a little tedious to get the correct amount of end play (.003 - .005") between the gear and the body. I took the liberty to smooth out the oil passages inside the body with a dremel - the factory casting was a little rough and had sharp edges. This will hopefully make the pump a little more efficient by reducing friction loss. Still have to drill the pin hole - going to use my friend's mill for that...
  14. Nice pics! Not sue which direction your last shot is looking, but on the horizon might be Mt. Morgan, Bear Creek Spire, Four Gables, or Mt Humphreys. All 13,000+ This is the most dramatic area of the Sierras.
  15. Over there in the high desert climate, you shouldn't have to worry about your truck melting away anytime soon with its current patina. However you can focus on treating and preserving the areas you can't see - body seams, drip rails, inside doors, and any nooks and crannies where water can sit - especially if dirt can accumulate as well. Even on a truck with a nice paint job these areas still are prone to decay and failure.
  16. Good to hear Tom was able to come through for you. Keep us posted and put up some pics of your upcoming project!
  17. The Offy dual intake isn't that great. The draft is way low (unless you use some serious spacers) and Tom Langdon told me once that company has some quality issues. I am not sure the Offy has any provisions for heating it should you want to run exhaust headers as well. The George Asche dual intake gets my vote. Also the rare Edmunds intake is cool if you can find one. This is what Blueskies (on the car side) used.
  18. This was a couple weeks ago just down the street from our office, within view. The cops had the whole block shut down - it was quite the scene! http://www.smdailyjournal.com/article_preview.php?id=1755715&title=Man%20in%20gas%20mask%20with%20grenade%20detained Get ready for Halloween!
  19. These are beauties (including Hank's contribution). I'd like to do the same thing with the tach conversion. I'm thinking I might want the tach on the speedo side and put the speedo where the speaker is. Lookin' good!
  20. I believe Tom Langdon (Langdon's Stovebolt 6) also sells these. They are a must when installing exhaust headers. Post the Napa # here too if you don't mind...
  21. Cost was $68. A little savings over a new pump. Plus a fun side project.
  22. Alas, I finally found a rebuild kit. Of all places, I was able to order it through Kragen, direct from the mfr. Napa couldn't get it. Melling # K-37A This pump only has about 15k miles on it but some contamination passed through and marred the gears a bit. These rotor type pumps are more suseptible to damage from contamination. Still made good pressure, but while I have it apart, might as well do it right.
  23. Ever hear of one? Can't seem to find any except for just buying a whole new pump. All I need are the gears and a cover plate. Thanks,
  24. Doug Moore's muffler shop in San Clemente could probably hook you up. He's a great guy and you'll also learn a few off color jokes chatting with him. It's a ways from you in Long Beach but this is the only place I know of down in the southland. Good luck!
