  1. Since some people already have these intheir cars and the plumbing is already installed then it is not necessary to buy the filter kit with the housing and new plumbing. All they would have to do is just screw in the fitting to the cannister and hook up the lines. i am just trying to see if there might be enough interest to get these filters and resale to the guys that want them I am not trying to make a killing on these filters. As states this filters are listed at 10 micons and your current NAPA gold filters might only do 20-30 micons. Again the filters last 5-10k miles and based on how musch we drive this is several years for most of the guys. And also it provides the appearance of having the correct filter in the early styled cars. All input is welcomed on this topic. Ihave to have a good feeling that I can resale them or I willnot put out the money to buy them. Please provide feedback to me. rich HArtung Desoto1939@aol.com cell 484-431-8157
  2. The unit that was posted was because the other company or distruiter was trying to get rid of the filters. The price from the manufacturer that I am getting even with a discount is around 25 dollar apiece. So the real questionis if we can get these at the price that I quoated would this be something that the guys woudl purchase Yes or No. i need in put to make a decision to shell out some money or not. 3. here is a picture of the oil cannister.
  4. I need some replays from the group. I might have an opportunity to get a replacment sytle oil filter similar to the old Fram PB1/2. The difference is that the flang is in the middle of the unit instead of being near the top as in the old style. The size is basically the same in width and length. The filter is rated at 10 micron and would be with the 1/4 inch holes at both end. The unit could be painted to the users choice and then you can put you own decal on the unit. If I order in quantity of 25 of more that the filter would resale for around 30 -32 dollars each plus shipping. Remember this is NOT OEM filter but would be similar to the look of the old white WIXX filter that no one can get anymore. What are your thoughts. I need input to see if there would be enough interest to put out the dollars. These would be great for a driver car and would somewhat look period correct. Need your advise. write to the posting or write back to me at my home email or you can even call me on my cell phone 484-431-8157 Rich HArtung Desoto1939@aol.com
  5. The Flow Ezy company that makes the filters just informed me that the individual cost is 42 dollars for each filter. The Flow Ezy FL12 would have been a compatable filter being in the metal canister but at this price I do not think anyone would buy them. Gave the good old college try sorry guys. rich hartung
  6. Greg, No hard feelings to you for your tongue in cheak posting. I am still researching the cost but one company told me a price of $41.00 for each unit. Way tooooo much but will still pursue with the manufactuerer. Rich Hartung
  7. Greg: i have read you post and agree with your thoughts and suggestions. I am not a POC member and do not have a Plymouth but have a 39 DeSoto, a sister car. As some else mention that the current leadership in the POC does not want to hear issues but only wants to hear issues and suggestion is not a really good policy to lead a club. Some one that was in a mangement position stated that they do not want to have a group of Board members that alwasy agree witht he leader of the company because they company will never grow and or move forward. The president of the POC should welcome the issues and then bring them up to the current board and to discuss the issues. The club is made up of its membership and just just the Board of Directors if it is then it has become a club that will die and die very quickly since no new blood will want to join and participate and provide any input. Keep up your ideas. As you have noticed the AACA has also been changing and now they have a drivers class. They never had this but have listed to the members, but they are slow to change but at least they are changing. If I had a plymouth I would be standing right alongside of you trying to push for change and in my aspect this is a positive change. rich Hartung 1939 Desoto owner
  8. Greg: For us guys that have drivers and I think that is the majority of us car/truck owners as a whole I think we are more concerend with what works versus sometimes what is OEM. If you are an POC/AACA car owner that is going for points judging yes then this would not work. But how many cars do you see at the shows that are drivers that might have a repro part on them and if this filter is cheap enought and does the job then I would go with it. Instead of spending $50-100 for a NOS Fram I would spend the $20 for a more modern filter with a better filtering material. How many car do you see with the old wixx's white cannister filter at the shows. I still see alot out there. The guys could paint the filter any color they want and then put on any filter they like to make it look OEM. I can go to Hershey next week and I can point out alot of Packards that have the wrong bumper bolts on them. A very good friend is make repro that have a bevel on the hex bolt and this look better that the original flat hex bolt and these cars are being judged for being Senior cars and the judges do not even know they are wrong appearances is what counts being pretty. Any thoughts. rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  9. If you paint the filter orange no one wil tell the difference from a distance that is not the fram filter. I have emailed the filter company and I am trying to get a price on a quantity order. I have a feeling that this might become a good replacement style filter that the drivers might still buy at the flea markets. After I get the info I will post some info for everyone. rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  10. Greg, i have been finding the same for my 39 Desoto but we all have to remember that there was and stil is a limited amount of parts and we are counting on people to help find and vendor these parts. It is the great needle in the haystack for some of us but you ahve to admit when you find the needle without getting stuck with the needle it turns out to be a great day for all of us. Hope you can make it to Hershey this year you never know what you are going to find. It took me 6 years to find a clock for my car. i saw a 39 Desoto coupe on one of the fields and it had the factory clock. The next day I was able to find two clocks for the car but if I had not seen the one in the car I would have walked right past the items. So Hershey is not alwasy about finding the part but also about seeing example in some of the cars,Its a great experiience just to see so many vendors in thsi hobby. rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  11. Hi to all of the people that have been commenting on this issue. I was the Chairman for the 1998 NAtional Desoto Convention that was held in Valley Forge, PA. There are great expenses that are incurred to run a national show and usually only a few people do all of the work. After the meet alot of people do finger pointing of the costs and if there is any money made on the event then everyone wants a piece of the pie. Some people get upset when one show was able to get more cars than the last show. But when you can increase the participation that should be a plus for everyone. Each show should try to build on the good points and try to find ways to bring in new blood and sometime you have to break the rules and take the heat for it but in the long end the hobby will become stronger After my convention I was persoanlly run over the coals and poke with some very nasty comments. Hence forth that is why alot of people are not supporting the NAtional events. Just look at the AACA they are having a very hard time getting new blood into the organization. Most of the car people are hard working guys and gals and they have to spread the funds out to support their families, mortgages, college cost, etc and some are even out of work. If you did a poll of the number of car nuts and I use this term very loosely we use the cars as a means to meet other people, and drive our cars and to have fun restoring them to the best of our abilities and get a great deal of satisfaction. for alot of us this is our way to escape the issues that face all of us each day. I do appreciate the people that can fully restore a vintage vehicle back to originality and if you have the financila means to do so that is great because this provides the others guys with the opportunity to see perferctions and also give the drive to better our own cars or trucks or what every vehicle we currently own. The cost of maintaing a club will alwasy be going up from year to year and we all hate to spend more on membership fees but this can not be stopped as had been mentiion in prior posting on this issue. I suggest that everyone decide what they want to do either make a driver, add speed equipment, customize and even make an original car, but foremost the msot important aspect is that we all have a love for our cars and we need to make sure this is keep going strong no matter what direction you want to take. I have met guys that can out buy me any day and i have met people that are just getting by from day to day. In my book I do not look at the money or lack of money that you might have or how great your car looks but I look at how you treat other people. For us older members we were taught a very simple rule during our childhood days and that was the Golden rule. Do unto others as you willhave do unto you. These are just my thoughts on this. And if you can live by this simple rule the world will be a better place. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  12. Take the old grease cup of the spindle. Acutally these are called the hub caps since the cover the hub or the spindle. Take the one off your car and go to a NAPA or Auto Zone and they should able to find you two. rich hartung
  13. I have both of these tools. The Ammco is the eaiser of the two tools to do the brake ajustment. I will lend out the ammco tool since it only weight about 2-3 lbs to ship but as all of you know these tools are getting harder to find and the cost to replace is not cheap. There is one on ebay for $475. I will lend the tool but will require a deposit onthe tool and when the tool is returned you get your money back. This is the fairest way that I can guarantee that i get the tool returned or you lose your money and then get a bad post from me. I am only trying to be fair but since I personally do not know everyone I have to protect my investments also. Write to me and I will explain in detail how it works. I live near Valley Forge PA which is near Philadelphia pa. I have done a lecture on the Ammco and the MTC 19 Miller Brake tool at the AACA convention that was held in Phila PA last feburary. 14. I will be going to Hershey and this willbe my 22 consecutive year. I attended when we still ahd the dirt fields and then the liquid sunshine that turned the aisles in to muddy paths and your boots would get stuck. After they paved the lots it became harder on your feet and if it gets warms the heat from the asphalt can be felt. I go on Thursday and friday so if you are there you can rech me on my cellphone 484-431-8157. It is like to to Mecca for all of you car lovers, You never know what you are going to find and it has taken me some year to find teh right part for my 39 Desoto. You can also contact me me at Desoto1939@aol.com rich Hartung;)
  15. Mike: If you put headers on your car thenthe jusdges will defeinately know that these were not original. You have used the wrong term for the manifold. Headers is a collection of the exhaust pipes so that they are equal in length to permit the exhust to leave the engine and get rid of the back pressure. I have done AACA judging and the guys that are looking at the engine compartment will not know if they were not original equipment with your car. You can also have the wrong engine in the car and by this i mean that the small L6 froma different year could be in the car and they will not know it. It just has to look like it is the correct engine. They do not look at the serila numbers that are stamped onthe block. But when you go to sell the car and someone has done there homework they possibly could tell you if the engine has been replaced. Also I would suggest that if you are going for an AACA car that you get the AACA judging book sent to your home. This will explain the entire process and what they are looking for. Also remember that the jusdges that might be looking at your car might not know anything about your car. They are jusding on the appearance of the car iand if things look to be period correct. Example: if you used the modern clamp on wire connectors instead of the soddered on type, If you used plastic wires instead of the cloth covered wire and if the cloth covered wires have the wires in a loom or if they are taped in plastic or cloth. If you have radials instead of bias-ply tires. If the car had 16 inch tires and you have 15 tires. If you converted over to sealed beam headlight whenthe car origanally had bulbs. If the car had bulbs in the headlights thatn you can not have a sealed beam fog light on the car since these would not have been produced. These are the things that are being judged. rich Hartung
  16. Fred: It is a pleasure to provide information. Thats what this great hobby is all about. I have bicycled across this great counrty of the USA, yes bicycled from Virgina to California. I met some great people along the trip and some went out of their persoanl way to make sure that I had a memberable trip and even provided food and shelter for free. One person did this for me and all this farmer asked for instead of money is that i pay it back by helping people. This is what the entire world should be doing for each other and it would be a better place for all. I have some great cross ref books and can help with electrical parts and also the hollander interchange for the years that you are working on, if you need you can write tome directly ar desoto1939@aol.com Send me your home email and I will send you pictures of my car. rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  17. Jim: Is the price that they quoted for triple plateing cooper, nickel then chrome or just nickel and then chrome. If this is show chrome, thriple plating that is a good price. I assume that they are also doing all of the prep work and polishing. rich desoto1939@aol.com
  18. I looked inmy parts book and the front coil springs for the 39-40 dodge is part number 1123242 and this is the same for the 40 plymouth. rich hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  19. I have the miller tool that is used to push the pin out of the ball and also the bench vise that you sit the ball on to push the pin out of the ball. If you need to borrow please contact me. rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  20. The brake tool that was mention as the ACME tool is really the Ammco Brake gage. I do have one of these tools and also the miller MT19c with all of the various adapters. To do a proper full brake adjustement when you have replaced the shoes you should use either of these tools to get the proper arch for the shoes and to elimiate the soft pedal. I will loan the Ammco tool to anyone that needs the tool but I need a down payment to insure that I get the tool returned. As stated above these tools are getting very expensive to purchase. There is a current Ammco Brake gage on Ebay for 475 and there was another one for over $1000.00 I recently did a demo on both of the brake tools at the AACA convention that was held here in Philadelphia, PA Contact me if you need to borrow the tool. rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  21. I have a 39 Deosot that was an original car when I purcahsed it. I discoverd that the inside of the side panels and the under side of the hood, which has the butterfly stype were not paited. They ahd a factory color of a very dark green sort of light a dark ink color with a hint of green. This was the factory undercoating in these areas. Most people and painters just paint the indder sides of their cars the same as the exterior colors just to make it look consistent. Most of the people that are loking at our cars would wonder why we did not paint the enterior of the hood and inner side panels the same as the car. We do this because we want the cars to look pretty. I see this all the time when I go to Hershey inthe fall for the AACA eastern fall meet. The majority ofthe cars at this show are over restored and even AACA will admit this. They are primarily looking to see a car that looks fantastic. remember an AACA car does not have to have working head lights or tail lights a horn or fog lights. It jsut has to look pretty and correct. As a drivier I feel our cars are really better since we need all of these items to be working. Do not get me wrong a Show car is great and the owners take a lot of pride in them but in my world a driver is even better becasue this is what we all associate a car to be used for. rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  22. Mike: The r3 cap that you are showing is a corrct cap for the radiator. The caps that were covered by the hood were very plain and not painted or chrome plated. Also you do not have a pressurized system. The cap will have a look of galvanized metal. Most of the mopar caps did no thave any writing but were plain. The everseal R3 is a replacement cap that were sold at the auto part stores. No onw will take off point for this cap not even AACA since it has the original appearance and is nota pressurized cap. Rich hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  23. We need to know more specifically what your are trying to ask. The front brakes on my 39 Desoto which have the Lockheed system work very well at stopping the car. You need to remember that these cars do not stop as quickly as a modern car with disk and power brakes. You should always provide some more space between the other cars when driving. You only have a single line system coming out of the mastercylindar. Do you have a very soft brake pedal. Also remember these brakes need to be readjusted every couple thousand miles to insure that the travel when pressing the brake pedal is not to great. As the lining wears the distacne from the drum and braking lining is getting wider, you then need to readjust the shoes as a minir adjustement. look in your repair manula regarding brake shoe adjustments. rich hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  24. The correct autolite number is starte switch or selinod sw 2813. do you have the switch that has the hole onthe side to send current to the automatic choke? on the front left this might be a smal hole inwhich a srew is used to attach a wire and then it runs over to the sisson automatic choke. I have a couple of these switches if needed. but look on ebay and you will find them also. thsi switch was used from 37-42 and used on Ply,Dodge,Desoto and chrysler. rich hartung
  25. Mike You could also try contacting your local dodge dealership they might have one in stock you never know what you can find. Rich
