  1. nice going, pete! i told you it's impossible to live without a decent toy:rolleyes: and please stop posting videos of blown flatties, i 'm very fragile at the moment:D greetings from berlin! fred
  2. i bow before your key-zen, master. it shall be done... good night everyone!
  3. now there's something that's going on the wall in the garage, right next to the car for the next adjustment! thanks a lot!
  4. greg and joel, your german is hilarious! tears in my eyes here...
  5. i know;)couldn't help it. louie, how about this: get to know those car importing guys a little better and ask them to stuff your parts into the trunk of one. i did this with my tires and they didn't charge anything for it but a case of beer. also i wouldn't want a lonesome box standing around on of these freighters, guess they steal everything that isn't up on the tree by the count of three...
  6. wow, dual ignition and one carb. tststs... thanks for sharing, great pics, ed!
  7. it's just plain broken, jim. the shaft seems to turn freely, but i don't know what to do with it. rebuilt is too expensive, and i don't think i'll be driving that much in the winter, so i was thinking about fixing it in closed position. what do you recommend?
  8. i wonder if there's something like a "retired enthusiast":D
  9. know anybody over there? that's how we do it: everybody gets his orders sent to a certain adress a friend is at on holiday in the US, and he gathers it, stuffs it into a container and ships it over here. that way we can devide the freight and have someone look at all the parts if they're correct and intact.
  10. i know, friend of mine had one in his 39 ford coupe... that's why everybody uses them, i guess, cheap and efficient. it's scary. he chose to go back to a stroked y-block though, and i applauded;)
  11. i guess a bad advance will result in excessive fuel consumption and loss of power, as the timing will be off point at different rpm levels and cause a bad efficiency? is that right? i was told so, anyway...
  12. thanks, don, you're welcome! a GAZ is a russian car brand, this one'sa "pobieda", which means "victory" my friend heavily modified it and put a flat six from a russian tank in it. i posted pics of it a few weeks ago, you find them here: http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=21672&highlight=pobieda i really like the car, it's one of a kind and nobody ever knows what exactly it is, so it's a lot of fun to watch the people examine it in the street... edit: oh, i see you were faster:) in this video skip to 4:40, you can see both cars starting after one another. fun, hehehe.
  13. maybe you should try warming it up a little and then turn the distributor, see if the sound comes and goes? i don't know spark knock on these engines either, but on the opel it was ,like some wise guy from "top gear" once said, like barry white gargling with nails. a real nasty, metallic, sharp knocking under the hood. at the race this weekend i advanced my timing to get more punch, when i retarded it afterwards i was a little too generous and when we rode home, the engine didn't have power at all and sounded terrible. i checked and i was before tdc, so i advanced a little and everything was fine. it's amazing how the sound can change on these motors... good luck!
  14. a friend sent me some nice shots from last weekend. rusty and slow, but that's no reason to hide, is it? lining up: that stude pipped me by a few inches only... now this one wasn't my class at all, fast little weasel: my friend's GAZ beating a ford flattie... harhar, the man was furious! i must say, i think i infected with the racing virus. let's see, what can i sell first to get some speed parts and a bigger engine?
  15. man, there should be a "print-complete-thread" button somewhere here. this is another great read on this board, lots of stuff to learn! joe, i'm almost certain your problem is the timing, if i may say so with my limited knowledge... i had a similar problem when i rebuilt my opel engine 10 years ago. the distributor shaft was worn and the chain too long, but the engine had a chain tensioner and i searched forever to find the problem. my timing was jumping and "somehow changing itsself" like yours does, when i get this correctly. and: why should the noise goe away just by turning the dizzy if its source was mechanical? i sure hope you'll find it soon and that it's not too bad. where do you plan to buy your vac advance? here's an old photo of my old "4-banger". sure loved that engine! best from red-hot berlin! it's 35°C out there.... fred
  16. *sound-of-hand-slapping-forehead* bill, of course, you're right! thanks.... how come you know so much about these cars? i lived in bremen for a long time, just a few kilometers away from the old borgward factory (or the bombed remains). my father was born there and always told me a lot about these cars. here's another one, just googled: http://mysite.verizon.net/vzenughv/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/1958goliath1100kombiwagen.jpg
  17. it looks very similar to a borgward, but the grill and bumper don't match. borgwards have a diamond shaped grill insert with the logo in it. i say it's a Lloyd Alexander TS Kombi...but then again, it looks too big for that, and grill is still different. export model? that's a difficult one. hmm...
  18. that's what i'm going to do, jerry, but i don't have any hope about this: a tiny little mopar key with a bent ring, the exact same color like sunburnt grass, ten thousand people stomping the ground throwing litter, cig butts and beer cups all over the place... but i'll try, you're right! i don't know if i should scrape around on a 20$ blank myself if i have never done it before... i'll try find a locksmith, and if that doesn't work, maybe i'll give it a try. seems like some of us here are pretty experienced lockpickers... hehehe. how come? edit: just noticed i became a guru, funny thing, i don't feel different and most important: i'm not smarter or wiser than before. dang...!
  19. good idea, i could use the same device me and my friend used to test the step up jet... sometimes i need someone to stick my nose into the obvious.
  20. nice sound... what's powering your coupe?
  21. one thing for sure, i couldn't do that alone. maybe i find someone who shows me, so i could do the trunk lock on my own. the ebay blanks tommy showed me should arrive in a couple of days, i hope i know a little more about the local locksmith scene...
  22. this is great, thanks for sharing the pics! my greatest respect, that is a very cool and tastefully composed car. what kind of dual intake is this, looks very stylish?! fred
  23. i wonder if there are any locksmiths here able do that... sounds like one must be quite crafty for this one.
