  1. i think you can't tell if it's photoshop. there is a correct shadow on the rear wheel. the photo is much too small for a proper judgement, but the weired look might come from using a big flasher on the camera. only thing you can tell for sure is that this one ugly set wheels:eek: ---> one eye on the "rat rod" thread... you can have your radials reconfigured by vulcanizing WWs on them afterwards, i've seen that on shows. problem is that the tires remain radials no matter how much white you use on them.
  2. ok, thanks! so i cannot just buy some blocks but have to machine them or change the rear springs? hmm. sounds more difficult then i thought... i guess to get really low you have to change the springs anway, right? the look really large, i dont know say in english, it doesn't seem like one can just put some blocks in and reassamble. the blocks would be to large maybe and the geometrics of the axle and spring would look quite unhealthy. (sorry, i hope you know what i am trying to say) guess i rebuild the axles first and then see what i can do. no dirt roads around:) here
  3. this thread is great, don't stop! another mistake i probably would have made when rebuilding my BB carb...
  4. nice cruiser! say, how did you lower it in the rear, did you put blocks in? i'm interested in that because i want to lower mine as well (more than 3" if possible).
  5. ok, thats what i thought. and you're right about the rubber: i bought some for my '69 opel (it had to go for the 40) at a dealer in holland, really expensive, and it only lasted about a year. i looked under the car and most of them were damaged or even lost, especially the moving parts on the ball joints and transmission shift lever. thats really annoying, so i don't want that again.
  6. you mean those 3 trims? i was wondering, too. haven't found them on other photos while i was googling around for the p-10 series (and lay awake night after night quarreling with myself wether or not it would be a good idea to buy a 69year old car i had never seen before from some internet platform) they look original, though, because they are in the exact same worn condition like the rest of the car.
  7. oh, it was. or even is... it's called "ein käfig voller helden" (a cage full of heroes). they translate everything here. i checked out kanter's and it looks fine, lifetime warranty and everything... but i didn't find any brake parts. maybe i just call. some people told me not to order at bernbaum's, but i don't know why exactly, so i'll just give it a chance and have a look at it. thanks for your answers so far! it' really interesting to dig into the construction of the car, just today my new shop manual arrived. great book, because i had only a combined '36-'42 version before, this is much more detailed!
  8. *mein herr* is my english so bad...? thanks for the tip!
  9. i had a closer look on my front axle and found most of the rubberparts in tatters or bonedry (as i expected after 69 years ). since i want to do it once, but right, i was thinking of buying complete rebuild kits for front and rear, but i didnt really find any, only for post-war models (i guess '40 ist pre war in the US ). there will be a lot of stuff, bushings, bearings, pins, tie rod ends, rubbers... i have to pay large shipping costs to germany (and customs) anyway, so i'd like to buy everything from one hand, to minimize shipping. $$$... can you recommend any dealers for these parts (i'd like good quality, too, not NOS rubber that disintegrates after 2500km...)?! thanks! frederic
  10. hey pete, thanks for your nice email again, i guess this will be fun! my carb kit arrived today, guess i'll have to take walk to the garage... frederic
  11. i found this "insert image" button on top of the typing window, its like a small mountain with a moon or sun over it. if you click that, you're asked for an URL and i just uploaded the pics with pixpack, here: http://pixpack.net/ small and efficient program that doesnt cost anything.
  12. hey greg, thanks! the forum has been recommended to me by several people, i have heard only good things, so i decided to sign up. i am also in a german hot rod and oldstyle forum, but for most of the technical stuff i needed a different input. currently i'm buying tons of literature, parts lists and shop manuals, to get into the construction. it's pretty easy most of it, that's what i had hoped. i really like old stuff, not only cars and bikes, so i try to get originals. the car's look will be preserved as it is, because that's why i bought it in the first place. i wanted a rusty looking car, that really has no rust at all. the 40 has 78000miles on the count, i am the second owner. the wiring will be replaced completely, because i am afraid of fires:) , i bought erverything i need of rhode island wiring last week. i also want to rebuild the axles (gonna need some good advise here, where to buy and what) and lower the car. really low if possible... the rest remains stock, i want to ride!
  13. just found something. hope this works.
