  1. I've got a 47 D24 in the driveway, let me know what kind of pictures and measurements you'd like and Ill get them together.
  2. Most of the rubber I've bought from AB is old and dried out. They are pretty good about replacing it with more dried out rubber.
  3. Been tidying things up the past few weeks. Ready for a week long road trip.
  4. I think on mine the beveled nuts and tapered washers are on the exhaust manifold. I think the idea is the split nuts / tapered washers will move with the exhaust preventing breakage. A tight bind would be more likely to bust the cast durning all the heat induced movement the exhaust sees. My best guess. I have bolts in place of the long studs, it's one of the things on my don't forget to address list one day. Those 2 bolts seeped a little on initial startup dispite sealant on the threads.
  5. The wix 51080 fits my d24 just right. Comes with the large gasket for the cover and the filter gaskets are built in.
  6. This is an understatement. I took a 4 day tribology class a few years ago, when I signed up I didn't think there was any way they could fill 4 days of instruction on the topic of oil. Was I ever wrong, they hurried and still didn't cover some areas thoroughly. They were focused on industrial applications but most all the info was pertinent to any lube/friction situation. Looking back I would have thought the impact of that course on me would be to turn me into an oil snob, just the opposite is true. I find I change my oil less frequently and I worry less about getting the exact product recommended by the manufacturer. The quality of the lube and additive packages has improved drastically. We found if you run regular oil analysis and use a side stream kidney filter after each run you can safely extend the oil changes 5 fold. It saved many thousands of dollars a year on oil changes and made me much more confidence in the condition of my equipment.
  7. I recently put Phillips 1129 bulbs in my marker lights and brake light. As part of the project I removed and cleaned the lenses and painted the inside of the housing white (the rears I was actually painting the fender as there is no actual taillight bucket). The improvement is remarkable. I'd still like to have brighter lights but this is much better than the correct bulbs, dirty lenses and buckets.
  8. I run 87 w/ethanol if I'm going to burn it up in the next month. If I think it will sit for some time I put in non alcohol gas, I think the pump says 89 octane. My carb rebuild parts say they are ethanol safe but I think straight gas ages better, I could be completely wrong here but just my gut. Certainly is the case with small engines that sit w/gas over the winter.
  9. I dare ya to walk in an auto parts store and ask for manifold nuts, they will give you the skunk eye.
  10. Just think about how much his world will change if he really impresses this young lady. I find car challenges are nothing compared to the opposite sex!
  11. I find the best way to get it up there is overfill the crankcase and let the crank splash it up there.
  12. Heya Sam, we are neighbors, I'm just east of Knoxville in the hills. I assume that's a chilly adult beverage, I find them critical for proper thinking chair activities. I don't see any steam or smoke coming off the top of your head so I assume you've either just started or its a fairly simple challenge you're thinking on
  13. My eldest assistant.
  14. This doesn't include the 5% coupon you provided. I don't know why they hit me so hard here. Truth be told delivering here in the hills is kinda tough for the larger trucks so I guess should be happy they are willing to bring stuff to me.
  15. I fall into this trap quite a bit, I think 15 or 20 dollars shipping on a hundred dollar order is ok so I run it up till it feels right. Sometimes I end up buying things I could have done without.
  16. I ordered one from O'reilly it will be here this am, they are going to take the Wix 51010 I have on hand as an even trade (I told them I didn't buy it from them but they were fine with that). When I find out if this is a good fit I'll shop around for the best deal and buy a few to have on hand. I've had pretty good luck buying large lots of filters for my other cars and getting them at a discount. The number of miles this car will get will probably make it one of those annual changes so 6 or 8 will last a long time. I'm going to blame Amazon for my shipping grudge. Before they came along it was expected you'd pay a fair amount for shipping and that's just the way it was. 20 years ago I wouldn't have thought twice about RA's shipping amount. The Wix 51010 in my first post cost about 10 bucks, no shipping and arrived in 2 days, they have spoiled me. Robert, I know what you mean but I'm a tight wad from the beginning and old habits die hard. Poor folks have poor ways. Dave, I called the local Tractor Supply and they said I could bring the old filter in and they'd match it up. I find an awfully lot of this 1947 Dodge is similar to my 1941 Farmall... Sniper, I've bought a bunch of stuff offa RA but only when I cant find it anywhere else or I'm buying several items. I've had a few fitment issues from them, they are good about returns as long as its done quickly. If you buy parts in advance and don't get to a project for a few months you might end up with some odd parts on the shelf. One of the really silly things I like about them is the magnets, we have them all over the house. My youngest daughter encourages me to buy from them so she can try to match a magnet with one of her matchbox cars (girl after my heart). I have been on a few scavenger hunts to find a car to match a magnet, one of the more difficult was an early 50s Studebaker. We got the magnet and she had to have one that looked like it. I looked high and low for a red early 50s Studebaker fastback matchbox, finally spotted a 1:40 scale car at a drugstore so we now have it on a shelf with the magnet.
  17. I ordered a Wix 51010 offa Amazon and discovered the center hole is a little too small (.5"). The filter I've been running was a Hastings LF128, it looks like that crosses to a WIX 51080. The main difference is the bottom inner hole is ~.75" rather than .5. RockAuto has it in stock but the shipping is as much as the filter. My Local Napa closed up shop, woe is me.
  18. Mine is 10mm rear 3/8ths front, ugh.
  19. I've got a big gentleman jack bottle I'm looking to use for something creative, maybe a radiator overflow catch can?
  20. I just installed a 12v Newport Engineering electric wiper motor in my 47 D24 newportwipers.com . Install was straightforward, fit was perfect, operation as it should, kinda pricy but what isn't these days.
  21. ditto all this at my place
  22. For future reference, 63" will work with a d24 230ci w/fluid drive but it's close. 64 or 65" would be a better fit.
  23. If you need a spare screw I know where to get one
  24. The OReilly version of the ATP Y804 is a Pioneer CA3002. Thank you sniper
