  1. My Wife and I would like to wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and Jesus Christ's rich blessings this day and the days to come!??
  2. A 1937 Plymouth P4 in England was called a Chrysler Wimbledon. It was R.H. drive, fender side lights, a leather interior with a fancier surround on the side windows
  3. I don't know how that works, my 37 Plymouth is a P4. Hmm
  4. Where I am in England we get very little to no snow. Me coming from Minnesota, and I miss it! ?
  5. Here in England if parked against traffic you are to use parking/running lights as long as you are parked at night time. Not many people do this and to avoid not having a flat battery, just turn your car around and park normally with the lights off.
  6. Isn't this all part of learning? Not everyone is at master mechanic level. I would bet that many of us worked on our daily drivers when young and then later when newer styles came along there was not much need to do the maintenance of these old cars. Then we buy an old car and are unsure of what to do. What better place to come than here with all that knowledge to tap into. I guess the old adage is the only dumb question is the one that wasn't asked.
  7. You should be able to go to any Power Transmission Company (bearings, belts, pulleys) and bring in your old belt. They should be able to get you the right one.
  8. It sounds like your starter relay is somehow hooked up to your light switch. Using your diagram it looks like it should be hooked up to your ammeter. Does your ammeter move when you pull your light switch?
  9. Nope I had no pain at all. The caustic soda quickly burnt the nerves. The only complications I have is a scar and I have to keep it out of direct sunlight as I am susceptible to skin cancer in that area.
  10. Just to keep myself from getting bored or getting stuck in a rut. I am restoring a 1970s Tonka Truck for my grandson, a Cribbage board for my son-in-law, and a ship in a bottle for a friend along with working on my car.
  11. I Like it. It is unique and one of a kind. ?
  12. I usually say, "The good Lord willing and the creek don't rise". LOL
  13. What I was told at the Queen Elizabeth Burns Hospital here in England is Acid will dilute itself but Caustic Soda does not and will continue to burn. I spent several hours flushing this caustic soda from my leg. On a ph scale, my leg registered 10. 7 is neutral and normal skin ph is 6-6.5 After 1/2 hour of flushing, it was 9-9.5. There was no pain as it killed my nerve endings. 5 years later I still have no feeling there and a lovely scar. When I was discharged from the hospital after 6 months of waiting for my skin to grow back 2 doctors, one a plastic surgeon and the other a burns doctor said, " You are very lucky. We have seen amputations with a burn like that". The lesson here is to be careful of caustic Soda. As for me, I was given no PPE when I had this accident and I took out a claim. With my award, I bought our 1937 Plymouth. So there was a bright side to this.
  14. I nearly lost my leg due to a caustic soda burn. It took 6 months for skin to grow back on my leg. That stuff is wicked.
  15. Interesting, I'll have a look tonight and let you know.
  16. I just found out we have a car show to go to on November 25 at Great Malvern Worcestershire UK. Apart from that my steering needs looking at as well and I have at least 1 weeping frost plug to attend to.
  17. I had a 65 Barracuda with a stock Slant 6. I used to get 27-29mpg with a 3-speed auto. I wonder what will happen with the engine's weight on the right wheel. It always seemed to have more weight there and the suspension was torsion bars compared to leaf springs. My car would go around L.H. corners flatter than R.H. My question is, Why a Slant 6 and not as P-15 said a 318?
  18. I have not but The NSRA brought the Street Rod Nationals to St. Paul State Fair Grounds back in the 80s I did see one in a 40s Dodge car there and it looked great.
  19. LOL I too have a hearing loss in both ears. Hearing Aids help but... My wife often says in the morning, "Oh listen to the birds, how nice." I usually respond with, "What birds!?"
  20. I know I would not trust my skills in using a dremel tool for such a job. My experience is dremel tools bite when you don't want them to. It takes a steady hand.
  21. Don't always rely upon the Beeep the resistance may be too high for it to beep. Do as Ivan said and use the resistance setting
  22. I'll be 71 in March, my wife will be 69 in Nov. Our car came late in life when I was 65. We can not afford to go on vacations so we visit car shows. We have met some very nice people and call them friends. There is always a smile, a handshake, and a big welcome whenever we meet up. I can't imagine what you are going through but it looks like you know God is on your side and that you can rely upon Him. That is in your favor. I would finish your car and visit the car shows, make new friends, There is nothing like driving one of these old cars. It will, and will continue to put a smile on your face if nothing more than just going to the store as we so often do. Blessings to you, you are on my prayer list!
  23. In looking at Brass and Cast Iron there is a galvanic reaction between the two. There is also a galvanic reaction between steel and cast iron but it is lower than brass. I guess I look at how long the steel freeze plugs have been in the engines and figure it will outlast me if I use steel. I don't think it makes much difference between brass and steel. I am replacing mine with steel because that is what was available. My engine is a 1950-51 230 cu in and as far as I can tell these plugs have never been changed.
  24. I do not remember how much I put in. Mine was a guestimate. Ya, I would fill the radiator next time with white vinegar.
