Yes Norm, it is aslo when I go to the back of the property for a nature call and it freezes before it hits the ground..............LOL

Norm, would this work in front of my garage, I would imagine this could work for me most of the year except those few months of real cold...................Fred

Nope, C stands for metric, and Fstands for the right way hehehehehe. I will look for the latch for you first thing in the spring, think I know where one might be...............Fred ps will look for you if you don't find one, you of course don't have to give me your thermometer..............LOL

Normspeed you better send it to me, its got both Canadian and American temps on it, C and F............LOL

Normspeed I use the ewxact oil, Shell Rotella T 15 W 40, was thinking of going to Castrol 20 W 50 or Wallyworld Straight 40. My engine has miles and is not rebuilt.............Fred

Hi Bob T. of Joplin, what is going on there today, its' 76 and expecting a thundershower, this is Feb4 is it not. Joplin is only 900 miles south of here, it is only about 10 or 15 above here today, wow you guys are having a better winter than last year.................Fred

I have the cotton duck insulated coveralls, dress with a few layers and a fleece jacket and your good to go. But to be honest the weather in most of the northern USA including your area Norm is no where near as cold as the Prairie region of Canada, especially Manitoba, this cold by the time February rolls around drives a person nuts, it is very hard on mechanical equipment including cars. This year it has not been too bad around here, plus we have way less snow than normal. I still think I would prefer a winter climate of 60 in the day and 25 to 30 at night, that would not be so hard to take.

Hey Thief River Falls is only about 120 miles south of where I live In Manitoba.

The only exception to this is when you are using the yellow terminals for #12 or #10 wire. Some of the cheap crimpers just don't give you enough leverage. Jim, this is where the grip strength training comes in, sometimes on the smaller the red and blue terminals, I have a tendency of breaking them by applying too much pressure. The yellow 10 and 12 gauge size are a little more of a challenge. Now having said and having asked some questions, here is another question. When I crimp say ring terminals, either blue or yellow, I strip about 1/4 inch of insulation off the intended wire, I then twist the wire, insert inot the ring terminal, with the terminal ring flat and right side up, I crimp them horizontally or 90 degrees. I crimp close to the ring first, then crimp behind this crimp, them give a full crimp to both until very tight. I just tried this on the bench, I could not pull off the terminals, with a good tug. Is this the right way to crimp, or is there an actual proper procedure to follow for best results...............Fred ps thanx all for the replies, I like it when a question produces responses and opinions

Thanx Guys, my next question is this, there are high quality crimp pliers, I have the cheaper end type, what is the difference, on the high quality crimp pliers are the crimps different, does the plier, crimp them in a better way................Fred

Hi all, I have recently replaced most of my wiring on my 47 Chrysler, with wire gauges of 10,12,14 and 16. I have used mostly crimp connections, a few solder connections. Now I realize solder is best, but I have never had issues with crimps either, infact my crimps are extremely tight, I had to take some apart, they were very tight and needed to be cut off. Will the crimps be a problem in the long run:confused: ? I have just learned to solder, a bit:D , so I am not too good at it yet................Thanx Fred

At least you are keeping your Rusty Ole Girl going, when so many have succumbed to the crusher, smelter and made into offshore parts and tools. Been where you are many times, sometimes I wonder why, but I keep doing it cuz I love the car and am driven to get her finished and on the road driving proudly as she must have been going off the Car lot in 1947
-
Hey you lucky dogs, must be nice to have these get togethers, looks like you are making good progress Joe. I sure wish I had a few members closer to my locale, infact I don't know any other Mopar Flatheads around here, except 2 old Chrysler friends, and they are more purist guys, don't see them much. Looks like you guys had a great day...........................Fred

No it was not operating on the bench, after I removed it from the car, it did work on the bench, I was just finishing the re-wiring to the control switch, when it crapped out right on the bench, not to be revived again. I opened the case, one brush was worn right down to the connection wire, the other was worn a lot too, the commutator had some dirt and debris on it, but not bad. The armature looks good, not burned up looking or anyhing, I put new grease on the gears, the outside of this motor is very clean, and repainted last year. I have taken the motor in to an old time auto electric shop today, hopefully they will replace the brushes and that will solve the issue.........Fred

Hi all, I have never bought from Burntbridges, oh did I say that, I meant Andy Bernbaum. But I have phoned enquiring about parts, I already had the heads up on there attitude, so what did I do, I came off crusty, gruff, demanding, and very assertive, they, he , answered all of my questions without problems. I just took the lead, and was not going to be treated like a chump. Now maybe they have a some of the market monopolized, who cares, with a rep like theirs they are guaranteed to scare away business and customers, I will avoid buying from Berbaums at all cost, because of there reputation, have bought from Roberts, they are better, but I do detect a " Take the Old Mopar customer for granted attitude", will buy only if I have too...........Fred

Thanx Shel, it's hard to believe it gets so hot here in summer you can get wicked sunburn and/or heatstroke. Yet it is so darn cold this past week you would think we were in the North Pole or Alaska. I fiddled with the wiper motor today a bit, I hooked up the power to it, it would immediately trip the little circuit breaker, so something is shorting in this motor. I opened the case, the brushes were worn down pretty bad, one was so worn, the wire it attaches to was exposed out. Now I am not an electrician, but I am sure this motor can be repaired, at least I hope it can, I do have the spare, it does not work either, maybe with the 2, I can get one rebuilt and be done with it. Or if I can buy one that is in good shape, all the better............Fred

Hi Ed, you are right-20 when there is no wind and dry does not feel worse than 20 to 30 with wind and humidity, it is the windchill and humidity that cuts right through you. Yesterday it was aorund -15 out, and a wind with -40 windchill, I put on insultated coveralls, sorel boots 1992 models hat wore sweats and a fleece jacket under this. I went out to my parts car and removed a wiper motor, I was not cold in the least. It gets warm and humid here in summer, I live 9 miles from Lake Winnipeg, it is the size of Lake Erie, so the humidity, the hot summer air that blows from the south make 85 to 90 degree days common in July and August. Our weather is much like Minneapolis, or Fargo ND..............Fred ps we get killer tornadoes last year one made CNN news it was so bad, electrical storms here each summer, so winter is harsh for about 2 months, but summer is hot and humid for 2 months, from May till the end of september it is nice here, some years it gets nice and warm in April if were lucky...........Fred

Ed and Clay, its -18 here this morning, it was supposed to be -32 overnight, but did not drop that low. Temps will now be around 0 to -5 overnight and 10 to 15 during the day. Alot better than the -30 stuff, we usually get a week or 2 of the -30 to -35 stuff here every winter. Clay you need a generator for the pwer outages so you can get on the forum.............................Fred

Please send them some time..........Fred

Hi all, at 5:10 Pm about 30 minutes before dark, I suited up, went out behind my place over on the north side of my property, armed with screwdriver, socket set, wrench, needle nose pliers. Mission to remove wiper motor in a short time, it was -20 outside with a -40 windchill, got the wiper motor out in about 10 to 15 minutes. Brought it inside of the garage to the bench, connected a 6 volt battery charger to it, the wiper motor did not work, tried a few different ways to connect the power source, all with the same result, all that efort on a brutallly cold day, too bad it doesn't work........................Fred

Hi, yes I do have the spare in the parts car, condition unknown. I am not sure if I want to put another 60 year old motor in my car, might have the same problem, but will check 1st. I should be able to get this motor repaired, may have more zip afterwards, not sure what these wiper motors were like new, or if they were always relatively slower. The wiper motor is an Autolite model# 12B 2 speed. I would gopull the spare, but it's -20 here with a wind, and it's supposed to be -34 tonight with a windchill of -47, how do you guys in the milder climates like that one. I would go pull this wiper motor even though it's cold, but I am looking after my 2 year old daughter, so I can't, but would be crazy enough to if I wasn't looking aftrer her............................................Fred of the North

Hi all , it was about 20 below outside tonight, and -40 with the windchill, decided to go in the garage and pull the wiper motor, it was 40 in the shop. Got the wiper motor on the bench, took the wires off the switch, hooked up 6 volts to the wires, and the motor started to turn in both speeds, got everything cleaned up, re-connected the wires to the switch. Connected the power source again, and the motor started to run, but began to slow down and came to a stop, and would not run again, I tried all the connections, power was available, tested the hot circuit, there was juice to the wiper motor, but now it will not run again, what is up with this motor. Another thing I noticed, it doesn't appear to stop in the right spot either, but it never did, you had to turn the switch until the wipers returned to the stopped position on the car, Any ideas what may be the problem from some of you more electrically inclined......................Thanx Fred

Bill I would like to know if you or anyone else knows where I could get my rear wheel cyls sleeved in eith the continental US or Canada. I don't think I would do the fronts, as would like to convert to disc up there someday. My rear cyls have been redone, but there is a slight leak in one, that is bound to leak a lot more.........Fred

Not trying to be a "wise guy", could not a floor mounted switch be used, something like a headlight dimmer switch, it would be hardly noticeable. Not saying the shifter handle is bad, just wondered about a floor mounted switch, you are cruising, just hit the floor switch, but you would not be able to push in the clutch very easily if you needed to.............Fred
