  1. Last Monday I had the great pleasure of meeting Dave Pollock (dpollo). Dave has helped me with lots of phone advice and hard to find parts for my ‘53 Plymouth and especially my ‘51 Dodge D39 business coupe. I live in Alberta and he lives on Vancouver Island, BC, so we are about 800 miles apart. I was visiting siblings on Vancouver Island and arranged to meet Dave who is about 15 minutes away. Dave has an amazing collection of old Mopars ranging from the ‘20s through the early ‘50s, all flatheads of course. My personal favourite was a ‘40 Plymouth business coupe but an extremely close second is the pictured ‘51 Plymouth convertible. Dave was kind enough to take my brother and me for a good half hour cruise in the ‘51 with a stop for coffee on the way. What an incredibly sweet running car! Dave is a great forum member and has helped many people on this forum besides me. Thanks Dave! It was great to finally meet you in person.

  2. Hi all, I'd like to swap out the 3.9 rear end in my '47 Plymouth and replace with a 3.73. Searching this Forum, I've found some discussion about the swap, including mention of the spline count. Does anyone have a list of which models would have run a 3.73 crown wheel and pinion that would be a straight swap? Any information that could help me in the search would be appreciated. Thanks, Robin

  3. That is not where the battery ground goes. Usually goes in the forward most passenger side head bolt, at least on my 51. I would put it under the water housing bolt before I put it where you got it.

  4. I forgot to mention that the guy at the hose store gave me these fittings. And it looks like no leaks this morning - that means I don't need that brass spacer. If I keep it - it will just end up lost in one of the tool box drawers. So if anyone needs it just let me know and I will send it to you. No charge. Now I'm off to a local car gathering. About 15 miles from here. I did remember to fill up the new tank.

  5. I have a 1949 P17 ( 3 passenger business coupe ) it came stock with a 3.73. I found a 3rd member from a 1956 Dodge V8 with 3.54 gears that I plan to install right after I do some rust prevention. Previously I installed an R 10 Overdrive and that really made a difference! The 56 Spider gears fit the axles I have so I don’t think you’ll have any problems there.

  6. do not understand the brake system on the firewall, the '54 has a special recess formed in the floor pan for the room/ability to mount the booster unit. You can see this dome in this picture on the '54 Plymouth....pedal/master stayed mounted onto the frame rail NOT STOCK MASTER AND PLUMBING....just show picture of the recess for the booster As an added note, the service manual was already in print and did not include such mid year items of the 54 model like power brakes, power steering and the Powerflite automatic. It was later suggested for these repairs to see the 55 model year service book. The booster which was the late 54 unit was a Kelsey Hayes unit fitted for late 54 and 55 model Plymouth. This booster did not carry forward into the 56> cars.
