DanOlson Posted August 7, 2008 Report Posted August 7, 2008 After seeing Dennis_MN's grallery pics I got to wondering if reproductions of the engine labels are available. Like the Oil filter, Oil breather, Air cleaner. My 53 that I restored ~13 years ago is in need of a little pimping. Dan Olson Quote
Merle Coggins Posted August 7, 2008 Report Posted August 7, 2008 Yes they are. I believe Andy Bernbaum has them, and maybe others do too. It seems that I've seen them somewhere else too. Maybe Roberts? Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 7, 2008 Report Posted August 7, 2008 Do not get the pictured "Chrysler Full Flow Oil Filter" decal unless like me you actually have a full flow oil filter. I see way too many of these decals on by- pass filters. Some of these incorrect decals are found on trailer queens that only attend shows to collect tropheys. Were I a judge and observed this incorrect decal I would not give a trophey to the car it was mounted on. Quote
DanOlson Posted August 7, 2008 Author Report Posted August 7, 2008 Do you know Andys username? I do not see a Andy Bernbaum in the members list. Dan Quote
Allen I. Posted August 7, 2008 Report Posted August 7, 2008 He is on the links page as a supplier Quote
Mario Loya B1B Posted August 7, 2008 Report Posted August 7, 2008 Dan, I got mine off ebay. They are listed there all the time. Quote

I hunted and hunted for the correct filter decal (its not a fram) and the closest I came was one from a Ford catalog but they wouldn't sell just one. Dennis Quote
Reg Evans Posted August 7, 2008 Report Posted August 7, 2008 Neil Riddle on eBay has them too. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1940-41-47-48-49-Plymouth-Dodge-Decals-1950-53-54-Mopar_W0QQitemZ280253255877QQihZ018QQcategoryZ42606QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting Quote
grey beard Posted August 7, 2008 Report Posted August 7, 2008 The decals I got from Andy Bernbum were so old they literally fell apart when I tried to soak them in water to use. Must be VERY old stock, huh . . . Quote
DanOlson Posted August 7, 2008 Author Report Posted August 7, 2008 I have a set on the way. Thanks again. Dan Quote
Dennis_MN Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 The decals I got from Andy Bernbum were so old they literally fell apart when I tried to soak them in water to use. Must be VERY old stock, huh . . . I had the same problem with the decal set from Roberts. The aircleaner doesn't have a decal because it broke into at least 8 pieces as I was sliding it off the sheet. Did better on the oil breather, that came off in two pieces but it hardly shows. DanOlson Posted August 8, 2008 Author Report Posted August 8, 2008 Now I can't wait until mine arrive. If they come off in pieces it will be my secret and my wife won't need to know. Was the black under the hood originally more of a 'satin' finish versus a 'gloss'? Dan Quote
greg g Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 Satin is correct. Put a couple drops of dish washing liquid in the water you use to slide the decals off and mist the area where you are going to apply it with some windex it will help you move it around and position it more easily. Quote
DanOlson Posted August 8, 2008 Author Report Posted August 8, 2008 OMG, I haven't done water decals since my model cars days, ~45 years ago. I wonder if they can be 'clear coated' to help protect them. Dan Quote
Suddensix Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 Usually the reason decals come off in pieces is that they are old. Hobby shops sell a product called "Liquid Decal Film". A good coat of that on the decal before trying to remove it should solve the problem. And yes you can clearcoat the decal when it dries. Quote
