Frank M. Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 Anyone else get to the Iola Old Car Show? It was as well attended as previous years. We thought the gas prices might slow it down, but sure didnt seem to. This was my 28th consecutive time going. 575 mi. from home to there. I must be nuts, but still do enjoy it a lot. Saw the Dodge Firearrow proto that Joe Bortz now owns. Really a good looker. Special Show section for next yr. will feature "Orphans and Imports". Drank some beer --ate some brats--and hoping to make it next yr. Frank M. Quote
Captain Neon Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 No cheese curds??? That's my favourite food at Iola. I used to pass up fried cheese curds at the local county fairs because they were just a pale imitation of the Point beer batter fried cheese curds at Iola. I'll skip the dry chicken, however. I like your idea of brats. The pancakes in the morning are always a good time. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 Nothin' like fresh cheese curds, still warm and squeeky. Even better than a bag of candy. Quote
Frank M. Posted July 17, 2008 Author Report Posted July 17, 2008 You bet --I LOVE the cheese curds!!! Yes Norm,we probably did pass each other up several times. Also, the chicken IS very dry. But----the Point beer is cold and wet. My first time was about '80 0r maybe '79 , when on my way to Wausaw to visit my Dad. Was restoring a '48 Ply convert then. Found a NOS deck lid for a Bus. Cpe. that was the same as conv. except the hinge holes. I also have found MANY parts there. Used to stay in Stevens Point at the Travaler Inn. Drove our '47 Chrysler convert, up there at least 4 times. One yr. we went from there to Kalamazoo for the WPC meet. Special Show at Iola 2004 was for Plymouths, and I was honored by being asked to have our '40 P-10 Bus. Cpe as the Poster car. We now stay in our motorhome across the street from the meet which is VERY convenient! Besides the great pancake breakfast, mainstreet in Iola has the Chrystal Cafe. Pies to die for, made there each morn. Went to Hershey for many yrs. I would choose Iola if I had to. More fun !!!!!! Frank M. Quote
greg g Posted July 17, 2008 Report Posted July 17, 2008 My grandfather was a cheese maker. There was always cheese curds at the house, in the car, at the beach, at picnics. Problem was grandma's cure for to many cheese curds was a good dose of cod liver oil the next morning. I still love them but remembering the CLO, I always moderate my consumption. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 Greg...when it came to grandmas and the old days...cod liver oil was administered on scheduled..no symptoms needed...early preventitive medicine Quote
greg g Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 Grandma wasn't a sickler fo schedules but a trouble tummy meant CLO and mint tea with lemon. Quote
