Young Ed Posted July 8, 2008 Author Report Posted July 8, 2008 And I'm still here to talk about it Quote
Reg Evans Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 Humm.....was there a shotgun involved ? Quote
Young Ed Posted July 8, 2008 Author Report Posted July 8, 2008 We left for SD thurs after work. Ended up leaving about 5:30. Before that was quite eventful. I had needed to mow my grass and ended up being sick so I didn't get to it tues or wed. Luckily I had requested to leave early thurs before being out sick 1/2 of tues and all of wed(mon is the only full 8hr day I worked last week). I opened the garage and grabbed a gas bottle to fill up for the mower. When I shut the door I heard this horrible noise. One of the springs broke. Then the garage door opener pulled the door apart because of the uneven tension. So I spent an hour trying to repair the door enough to get back in to get the mower out. As we were leaving I remembered I better bring my sunglasses. I made a special trip to my truck and got them. Remember that for later. The drive was nice except we got stuck in traffic quite a bit on the way out of minneapolis. I drove the second leg which was an experience in her little car-VW Golf 5spd! Most of the drive her sister was calling trying to find out when we would get there. Her sister lives in town still but not at home. When we got to her parents house the 3 of them were waiting for us. There wasnt a big interogation or anything. Just introductions and then we went to bed. Friday the 4th her family had a pavilion at the park in town. Quite a nice park with camping etc. Mini golf, go carts and bumper boats on one end and a play land called story time village. When we were going to start walking around I thought "its bright out here I should grab my sunglasses". Tore through the car and couldn't find them! Somehow between the alley and the front of my house I apparently lost them. Her Dad and I got the only holes-in-one for mini golf. I got my butt whooped at go carts! Everytime someone would spin they restrict the speed on your cart. My car would barely move while they were all going twice as fast! One time my car even stalled out. We had a nice BBQ dinner at the park and then hung out for fireworks. I did see a nice D series IHC streetrod pickup at the park. There was a boat/water skiing show at the little lake in the park but that was boring rather quickly. We came after it had started and left at intermission. Sat morning we did some shopping and then went to dinner at her grandparents. Highlight of that is Carmon myself and her sister sitting on the couch in that order. Gramps looks at her sister and asks "So where's yours?" Later that night we watched Wild Hogs. Actually a pretty funny movie. Sunday we had a late french toast breakfast and then packed up and left for home. Quote
Young Ed Posted July 8, 2008 Author Report Posted July 8, 2008 Humm.....was there a shotgun involved ? Her Dad did mention he was tempted to stand in their driveway with one as we pulled into town thurs night......... Quote
knighthawk Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 better get used to it ! It's going to be that way on EVERY holiday from now on...................and then...................you'll have to decide WHICH holiday you spend at WHICH family........or even go to both on the same day !! If your smart, you'll get her to admit now, that it wasn't much fun and maybe shouldn't have gone...... good point to bring up next time, and there WILL be a next time !!! Quote
Young Ed Posted July 8, 2008 Author Report Posted July 8, 2008 Her family was already asking what our plans were for Christmas....... sounds like another trip might be happening then Quote

Young Ed Posted July 8, 2008 Author Report Posted July 8, 2008 Where do you plan on going for Christmas? S Dakota Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 S Dakota I have heard Mexico is much better than South Dekota that time of the year. Quote
Young Ed Posted July 8, 2008 Author Report Posted July 8, 2008 I'm sure it probably is. Might be nice to ditch both our families and do our own thing. Somehow I doubt that will happen though Quote
eric wissing Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 I am just 5 mins from S. Dakota. I say Mexico is the place you ought to be. Sounds like she has a decent family for being from SD. Both of my Grandmothers came from (or ran away from) there. I remember my ex mother-in-law going through her family scrapbook. After every picture it was either, they were shot, stomped by a horse, hung or ended up in prison. But they were from Nebraska. Eric Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 Ed; Watch the movie Fargo before Christmas. Quote
Young Ed Posted July 8, 2008 Author Report Posted July 8, 2008 Thats N Dakota Don. Almost MN actually too. Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 Ed; One Dakota is as bad as the other in the winter. Watch the movie Quote
later Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 I'm sure it probably is. Might be nice to ditch both our families and do our own thing. Somehow I doubt that will happen though If you are serious about a relationship with her then tell her that the both of you should start your own holiday tradition. Pick a holiday and make it special for both of you. Quote
Paul Hoffmeyer Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 So, Ed, I will ask the question that apparently everyone was afraid to ask. Does she do car stuff? And especially, does she speak Mopar? The first date with my wife of 36+ years was to a car show at the old Minneapolis Auditorium. Paul H Quote
Young Ed Posted July 9, 2008 Author Report Posted July 9, 2008 She does do car stuff. She spent a couple days with me when I was wiring and reinstalling the dash in my car. She polished some of the brightwork for the dash too. Now whether she is doing it because she likes cars or just wants to do what I am remains to be seen. We did go to all 3 days of back to the 50s together too. Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 Ed; She looks like a reasonably low maintenance keeper. However the guy she is with needs some serious attention. Are you bringing her to Detroit? If she comes and spends time with Wanda VanBuskirk, Kathy G., and my wife Lisa she will become corrupted and never be the same. I just moved the picture to page 2 Quote
Young Ed Posted July 9, 2008 Author Report Posted July 9, 2008 Ya the pictures were stuck on a friends camera and they were really slow getting them to me. That picture is a month old already! Sadly I didn't meet her in time before she had to choose her vacation times for the year so she can't get enough time off to come with to Detroit. Quote
greg g Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 Well you kind of answered your question in your first post. You said she had the Pole position as opposed to conducting a poll. So if you're gonna put her on the pole, seems like shes gonna lead the first lap, after that rubbing is racin..........never can tell when sombody will take the air off your spoiler so to speak. I have been happily married to the same woman for 36 years. Out of the 39 we have been married, I'd say that stacks up pretty good.......... Quote
Young Ed Posted July 9, 2008 Author Report Posted July 9, 2008 Ya the pole vs poll thing was a brain fart on my part. I meant to actually include a poll with the original thread too. Apparently once you mess that up you can't go back and add one. I like your math on 36vs39. Hope the 3 unhappy years were spread out! Quote
