Powerhouse Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 Are these looking in need of replacement? Quote
Niel Hoback Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 They look better than mine. But I don't know if thats good or not. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 Not really..these things take a beating like you read about..the problem would be if they were so soft and such that they allowed the drivetrain to shift position during acceleration when torque comes into play. I see more problems in these old cars withthe rear shackle bushing worn beyond service..this cause lots of noise..and lateral play. Quote
Powerhouse Posted May 17, 2008 Author Report Posted May 17, 2008 the engine and tranny do move a liitle when engine revs at high speeds...and they are kinda spongy. Actually one looks like a different size than the other...tilting the engine a bit. Quote
RobertKB Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 New ones are reasonably cheap and an easy fix. I put them in my '48 Dodge D25 without any trouble. Quote
RobertKB Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 I believe I bought them from Steele Rubber http://166.82.96.3/homeframes.html and they also come up on ebay once in a while. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 movement and canted eng/tran assembly will be a factor in determining the fit condition..they are not that expensive compared to the floating front mount. Most find in replacing them that getting it up high enough to slip in the metal plae/liner is aggrivating. Be careful when shifting these around that the front mount is loosened so as not to damage this item..that is expensive... Quote
Powerhouse Posted May 17, 2008 Author Report Posted May 17, 2008 OH...thanks for th info...I wouldn't have loosened it...but now I will Quote
David Maxwell Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 A little more worn than yours I'd say LOL! Quote
BloodyKnuckles Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 I actually purchased my trannsmision and floating engine mounts from ebay at a fraction of what Steele offers them. I live about an hour from Steele and it was significantly (like a couple hundred less) cheaper to order all of my weatherstipping and window felts from a company out of California, why? I don't know! I asked them if they would discount if I opened an account with them being as I have 5 cars that all have items that need replaced, they said "nope"! Oh well their loss. As for installing the transmission mounts, it was quite the challenge. It will make a noticeable difference. BloodyKnuckles Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 Ron..would you care to share the companies' name? Quote
BloodyKnuckles Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 Ron..would you care to share the companies' name? Weatherstrip Special. They are a HAMB Alliance vendor. Great company. BloodyKnuckles Quote
