Young Ed Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 Aaarrrrggghh just came back home and noticed my headlights and hood ornament have been given a fresh coat of spray paint by some asshat. Could be worse of course but I am still annoyed! Quote
Alaska48 Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 That makes me mad... nobody can ever have anything nice any more... Probably some punk a** kids.... Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 Man that sucks, I hope the paint gods gets whoever did that. Dennis:mad: Quote
bigred48 Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 Ed, you could move up to alex and live in the boonies, that kind of stuff doesnt happen up here very often. that is a major bummer, do you think you can use a paint stripper on it and not bother the crome? Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 I was at atlantic city this febuary and bought some cleaner that is supposed to remove that kind of damage without hurting your paint. Let's see what you got and go from there, I don't thing you have anything to worry about. That Germlin has hit all of us at one time or another:) Quote
builtfercomfort Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 As soon as you can, get some Goo-Gone or other concentrated citrus-type spot remover and a clean cotton shop rag and try to wipe it off. Don't let the paint harden any more than you have to. Quote
Robin (UK) Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 Or T-Cut, if necessary. Again, try to catch it while the paint's still soft. Quote
Young Ed Posted April 27, 2008 Author Report Posted April 27, 2008 Here's the damage. Mostly on the glass which should come right off. Just annoying more then anything Quote
50PlymouthSled Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 Looks like a crappy job from some kids in a rush who got dared. Dumb none the less, but yeah, try some paint stripper, should do the trick. :] Quote
daddyo23 Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 At least it wasn't your truck.. Still stinks, though. Sorry to hear it Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 Ed, that's the pits..... Just a thought--I don't know how good the plastic part of your hood ornament is, but you might need to use something different on it than you do on the glass of the headlights. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 Ed, I had over spray paint on my rear bumper when I bought the coupe. No telling how long it had been there. Paint doesn't stick to glass and chrome very well. I used a nice soapy SOS pad on the bumper, rubbed gently and all the over spray came off. No scuff marks from the SOS either. Also bought a couple of 53 Plymouth full wheel stainless hubcaps at a swap meet last year that had over spray on them. SOS also removed that paint on those with no scratches. Don't know how it would work on the hood ornament plastic, but if you keep the SOS nice and soapy it probably won't scuff it either. Quote
Don Coatney Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 Least they could have done was hit the areas where the paint is missing. How did they paint the headlights without painting the stainless trim rings? Quote
Young Ed Posted April 27, 2008 Author Report Posted April 27, 2008 That's what I said! They painted the one part that didn't need it. They did hit the one headlight ring slightly. Otherwise just the glass and then a little blast right to the front of the hood ornament. Quote
Tony Cipponeri Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 I won't go into it too much ,but I ran over a spray paint can with my Durango and got spray paint all over one side. I used paint thinner on it and it came off real good without damage to my paint. I would try a small spot on your cas first, but it worked for me. Tony C Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted April 27, 2008 Report Posted April 27, 2008 Norm had a great idea, if you get some 000 stell wool and some very soapy water and lightly sweep accross the area you will be fine. Paint will not stick to glass so I think you will be fine. It's never good when someone thinks it's ok to do something to somebody property. It takes alot of nerve:( Quote
Don Jordan Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 I make a motion that we bring back public flogging. Quote
mackster Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 I make a motion that we bring back public flogging. I second it! I already have a whip available:eek: Sorry to hear about your car some people can't stand when someone gets anything nice...... Quote
Young Ed Posted April 29, 2008 Author Report Posted April 29, 2008 Thanks guys. Got the headlights pretty well cleaned off already. Will probably have to pull the headlight rings and the hood ornament off to get the paint off of them. Quote
