Bad rust areas

Going over some old photos of my floor/rocker restoration. Found a couple of good before and after pictures of an area that seems to be bad on all these cars:

It's really not bad once you get over the shock of looking at all that mess. I always kept one side intact so I could go look at it and see how everything goes together. You have to make sure the surfaces you're welding are absolutely clean. That's where the speed blaster comes in handy. Someday this project will no longer involve sand and I'll be much happier.

Good work Joe. What worries me on my 51 project is that those braces from side to side are rusted out too. Those look hard to replace.

I think there's at least one person on this forum who has fabricated those pieces. Was it Tim Adams? In any case, they wouldn't have to be exact replicas of what was there originally in order to do the job, I wouldn't think. You may be able to simplify the design somewhat.

Hey Joe..yes I rebuilt mine and for the most part was able to cut,curve and weld sections of metal I removed from a 49 Plymouth I parted out...little time consuming but as they were not available for purchase..that is what you sometimes have to do...

Does anyone know a place for patch panels Driver side, for a desoto? I will take anything mopar...... close to it.....and here's the catch it can't cost an Arm and a Leg!!!

Mackster, the DeSoto espatch guys might know of a supplier. But you're right, an arm and a leg sounds about right.

Then do not go to the Plymouth Doctor, there sheet metal is pricey, but apparently is of good quality, not slammin them , just stating a fact, there product is expensive.

It sounds to me you are in the make your own template and go to the local sheet metal fabricator, or try it yourself.

What panels and what areas do you need, post some pics, maybe we can help.

One more thing, no Miller Time on the job till the sheet metal is formed and is welded in, then you can have the Miller break......LOL

I hear ya, If the miller starts flowing then I won't do much...but in the plus side normspeed might just show up! LOL.

to fix my cross members i cut the bad ones out and then brought them to a local welding place and had them bend the same shape and size out of a thick flat iron. They look like they will fit great. hope this helps.
