mackster Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 I'm planning something a bit different (again) for my grill. It's different enough for me but looks like every other grill. What do you think good or bad? thanks for your input...Mack G. Quote
55 Fargo Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 Hey Mackster, looks interesting, heck it's your ride, go with it, you can always change it, if it ain't to your likin..........Fred Quote
mackster Posted January 1, 2008 Author Report Posted January 1, 2008 Hey Mackster, looks interesting, heck it's your ride, go with it, you can always change it, if it ain't to your likin..........Fred Yeah your right, I'm not sure about it. eventually I would like to get the original grill back. but on the meantime I might just leave it like this...people are just too nice here to say that they don't like the way it looks. and that's O.K. too.... Plymouthy Adams Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 I would like to see a picture of it temp affixed into the grille opening..only then will the full effect be seen...Hey..at least you are thinking... Quote
Normspeed Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 I liked the last one you were trying out. Like Tim said, stick it in the opening, post a photo. Quote
mackster Posted January 3, 2008 Author Report Posted January 3, 2008 It's not sitting right and it's set too low but I have no way of attaching it..but you might just get the picture of what I'm working with.... Quote
55 Fargo Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 Mackster, from what I can tell, sittin in my chair, from 2100 miles away, is it looks like it has potential. You may have to fab some mounting brackets to get it to attach. The important thing is, what do you think of it. To me it looks good..................Fred ps it still amazes me how small the world is with our communications technology, you in the LA area and me in Manitoba Canada, lookin at your ride and what you are trying to do with it. Yeah, it's crazy!. We live in a great time! I know people say that back in the days was better, but I feel that, now is the place to be. plus we don't have any other choice... HA HA HA! Quote
John Mulders Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 looks good to me ! first thought it was a little (5 inch) ornament....then saw it on the picture on the car. John Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 oh yeah..the picture really lets one see what you working toward....now I can see the ratio aspect of the pieces to the whole car..I think it will go nice. Quote
Heavy Flat Head Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 The grill does look good, but I think it starts to look like a (this is hard to say) 50 FoRd. I am very sorry I said that word, and will repent the rest of the day. This is just my 2 cents. captden29 Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 i agree with heavy, first thought to my mind was ford. however, put it on and you may just grow to like it. if not it can be changed. i think it looks good, and as i have always heard, any grille is better than no grille at all. dennis:) Quote
mackster Posted January 4, 2008 Author Report Posted January 4, 2008 YOU are all right! That is the problem with customs. They tend to start looking all the same. I have had over ten different guess on my car this past month, got Chevy, Ford, Lincoln (believe it or not!!!) buick and one dodge. So I guess it's true the saying "I wanna be different just like everyone else!":D Quote
55 Fargo Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 But the bottom line is you design it, build it, and live with it, and nothing is carved in stone, so it could be changed if that be the case. But it is wiser to make your choice in th pondering stage rather than go to a bunch of work or mods that are hard to undue later. Last night I saw on Ebay a 1947 Chrysler Windsor Convert, at first glance a nice car, then you see the debauchery, all the front fender trim, which is a hallmark of design for these cars was shaved, no rocker trim or rear fender trim. I don't mind the no rocker or rear fender trim look, infact may not go with rocker trim on my 47 Chrysler either. The owner also installed some other type of park lights, now that doesn't look right either, these lights are expensive but still available, they aren't that rare. The paint job looks okay, but I can see the work a bit even in the pics. A real shame for a real classic as the converts are.......................sorry for the long dissertation Quote
Captain Neon Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 If it were my project, I'd go with vertical chrome bars across the opening. I don't like the way the grille you have pictured looks on that car. But that is my two cents. It IS YOUR car. Quote
blueskies Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 It's not sitting right and it's set too low but I have no way of attaching it..but you might just get the picture of what I'm working with.... Wondering how it would look if you flipped the grill over, so that the horizontal bars on either side were parallel with the bumper, and connect to the turn signal bezels at each end. This would also get the round center section up away from the bumper... just a thought. Pete Quote

mackster Posted January 10, 2008 Author Report Posted January 10, 2008 Wondering how it would look if you flipped the grill over, so that the horizontal bars on either side were parallel with the bumper, and connect to the turn signal bezels at each end. John Mulders Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 If UI am correct you changed each of the wings. I think Blueskies meant to have the whole set (as is in pic 2) flipped 180 degrees. like the second pic better, in the left pic the space occupied by the grill is less spread (in pic 1 the sides basically fill that area). john Quote
james curl Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 I think that in the picture to the right if the ends of the bars were brought up to the level of the parking lights so that the crome trim at the top of the parking lights lined up with the top of the bar the grill would look real good and connect the whole together. Quote
Brendan D25 Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 I think also you should remove the bumperettes for a cleaner look. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 For my two cents..reverse bars left and right..this will give you a straight line to match the bumper and gravel pan..the ends would align with the parking light assemblies at 90 degrees and the ball will float higher in the grill showing full effect and not partical hidden by bumpers. That way the over riders can stay on also As it is you have an angle above a straight line bumper and rounded upper grill corners also agianst an angle. Quote
Aussie D25 Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 What do you think? better? worst? same? who cares? let me know what you think! thanks Mack G. Well I think the idea is good but definitely some development needed, a friend of mine had a 53 Desoto but never eventuated we were going to run a series of overrider's in the grill insert like teeth, sad that the car was sold off... I had a bit of a play around with the bumper (pardon my windows paint hacker skills) and though that if you removed the chrome strip from the hood and raised the new style insert up to meet the chrome strips around the corner lamps it would look pretty cool and give a more open "mouth" which would beef up the front end and make it look a little angry. Mind you there would be a bit of fabrication involved but i reckon it would look heaps better, no offense but as it stands the focal point is the center bullet and right now it looks as though your car is trying to eat it but its getting stuck on its retainer? Normspeed Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 I like that last one Mackster. Quote
