And you think you had a bad day at work...(O/T)

Harold, sorry to hear about your Christmas gift from work.

Seems like this has become the time of year for such gifts though. The place my wife retired from several years was good to their employees this way too. Only difference was, if you made it through December without getting laid off, you still weren't in the clear. Thats because sometimes they waited until the first week of January to do it. Either way, it's a rotten time of year to lay people off.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

It wasn't unexpected....two divisions are merging and eight people including the division president were cut from mine, and even more from the other division.

My supervisor started behaving differently towards me a couple of weeks ago, and work started being diverted around me last week. By last Friday the final red flag was her asking me about six times if I have any appointments Tuesday. Monday morning I called a co-worker friend to say that I probably wouldn't be with the company after Tuesday, and he said 'gee, that's funny, I have to come to the office for a meeting too'. Needless to say, he got bounced as well.

I cleaned out my company van that morning before leaving home, and had a list of items to discuss with HR in my pocket. The HR people were shocked when I pulled it out and started asking my questions (the company is fond of the 'sneak attack' approach to layoffs).

Reg asked if I'm going to be making lemonade, and the answer is 'you bet I am'! I truly believe that better things are down the road.

Sorry for your loss Harold. Been there several times myself. You are correct that better things are comming. EVERY time it happen I got a better job. I believe I learned to look at the new job differently and choose better places to work. I certainly became better at negotiating and seeing tell tail signs of a bad job. Older and MUCH wiser. Be Well, Frank

I am sorry to hear about your job loss, Harold. I've been there myself and it is very scary. When I was laid-off back in 2002, the bomb was dropped on me right after getting back from my honeymoon. I had a feeling it was coming, and I had been looking but without any luck before the wedding. My wife and I made a 600 mi. move without so much as an interview scheduled because the job market was so bad in NW Arkansas in 2002. I knew that at the very least where I was moving to, SE MN, I could get a better paying job working the line at the local meat packing plant with a lower cost of living than NW AR. I ended up landing a QC clerk job that I held for five years before taking my current position in CO.

BTW, I think that footage was a set-up. I don't think a glass picture window would shatter that easily. It is likely ice or clear sugar. It is an old movie and theater trick.
