Yesterday I noticed one of the tires on my daily driver furd pickemup was soft. I checked it last night. As soon as I removed the stem cap I found my leak. The Schreader valve was loose in the stem. Not just a little loose but very loose as it took several turns to tighten it. Once I tightened it the leak stopped. A dab of spit on the end of the stem did not produce any bubbles.

My question is has anyone ever had a Schreader valve back out?

In all my days working around cars and tires this is a first for me. I might add that the tires on the truck are about 4 years old and have never been removed from the rim. I had them re-balanced about a year ago and they have never lost air pressure before.

I would chalk it off to one of those freak things that happen, weird things do sometimes occur. Could vibration have caused it to back off, road vibes nad the like can sometimes do weird things. Was it loose from the get go, and just backed out a little more to start leaking

I haven't experienced that, but not long ago I bought some chrome valve caps for my motorcycle, at a swap meet. Installed them, and next morning the front tire was flat. Turns out when I screwed them on, the front cap depressed the button and slowly let the air out.

I think this happens with some of the imported valves that use a funny plastic for the seal. cold weather or somthing causes it to shrink away from the metal. tightening it back down while cold cures the problem.

I agree that this is probably a warning from a disgruntled victim that you have wronged in your rampage of out West. Maybe that ferry you were riding. Was that between consenting adults? If you remember why they called Youngstown, Ohio "boom-Boom Town" you may consider paying some neighborhood kid to start your car. The next warning could be worse especially if you have pet horse. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, Youngstown was nationally identified with gangland slayings that were often committed with car bombs. Hence, the town gained the nickname "Boom-Boom City", and the phrase "Youngstown tune-up" became a regionally popular slang term for car-bomb assassination
