Am trying to work out what these are.....are they installed in place of the inside door push down lock button that is thru the inside door garnish molding?........used on cars from the late 40's onwards?........andyd

So that's where they got the idea for the lids on all my medication bottles.  Looks like the would serve to isolate the mechanism that would otherwise lift the latch.  Then adult fingers would reach in to set these to operate to unlock.  It's like now, our dog has learned to open windows, so I gotta remember to flip the window switch when he is in the car.

When  I was a little tyke my Father had  a 53 Plymouth.  I remember that he took the interior door handles off of the back doors and covered the holes in the door cards with snap in chrome buttons.  I always told myself it was so that my brother who was 2 years younger than I wouldn't fall out.   It was probably to keep us both in.
