I would like input please.

I have not been able to find a Thermostat like the one that came out of my car. Buy the way it looks s no longer is usable.

I have a 1950 Dodge Coronet. I am the second owner.

The car was very original. Until this part. Andy’s parts are was to small for me    In diameter, they do not fit into n my housing at all. My part there it fits in the hosing measures 2.345.

I hate to say keep searching the forums, seems like it was so easy I found the direct replacement and I never wrote down the number for it. I wish I did.

It is something common like a 350 chebby T-stat you get from any auto parts store and the gasket also.

When it is time to replace mine, I will just have to get the number off of it and go get another ......

 

A wise man once said, never remember anything that you can just write down and retrieve later .... I might be a wise man if I wrote it down.

Thanks @Sam Buchanan I was going through a bit of a crisis and tossed out a quick short reply without searching for the answer.

 

In the middle of a engine swap on wife car and need to get new/used engine off the stand to install transmission .... then my jack on the engine crane pooped the bed.

So while trying to fix it, I made a short post ..... Now the replacement part is ordered and be here next week ..... All dressed up and no place to go ... I got time to look it up now

That doesnt look original either..should have a bellows. Anyways, I got my replacement at Napa. I kept the box for future reference. I'll be home tomorrow if you still need it. Edit, Same as Young Eds in the thread Sam posted.

I want to say it does look original. Here is a photo of my 1950 218 engine T-stat .... looks the same to me.

 

 

Same time I just use it as wall art, would never put it back in service.  .... Same time it is just such a common size that it could fit both a 318 & a 350. .... Just really is a non issue.

If it is important to the owner, they might be able to find a NOS replacement on ebay  .... just personally something I would not bother with.

It looks like they maybe the same? But mine is so big in diameter. But yet the one i had with an adapter( two parts and a ring ) was way to big.

i wrote down some part numbers from that old post i will look in to.

Where it actually counts is the diameter of where it sits in the recess in the head .....

That is such a common measurement that finding a replacement is just not worth the effort to talk about.

 

In no way shape or form does a modern T-stat resemble a original .... They do work the same and do the same job ..... nobody knows in a car show what T-stat is installed.

A modern T-stat is more reliable ..... maybe you want to keep & mess with the original.

My ‘47 DeSoto has the bypass thermostat like yours Frank. I got a replacement from my local Napa . Part number THM-155 and it fit and works fine. It wasn’t in stock in store but got it for me next day with no special charges added. Hope this helps

I want to thank everyone for there input.

I am not trying to keep it original just trying to find one that fits.

The last one I found of the original style was on EBay . New after market brand in the box.

 

After watching several for sale over months I finally bought a cheap one (comparatively)  for $25- $30 shipped and this was about 6-7 years ago.

 

I am sure there are more out there, but, make sure to do dimensions checks as there seem to be many of that style but small differences that were made for many models  and brands.

You dont need to find an original tstat. Buy one for a 1960-70's mopar V8. They fit perfectly on my car and work the same. Cheap too. If you want a better grade tstat, buy a robertshaw style.
