Doug&Deb Posted March 6 Report Posted March 6 I’m sure this has been covered before but. How do you remove the ignition switch from the dash of a 52 Coronet? I need to check the wiring connections and with my back problems getting under the dash isn’t happening. Quote
9 foot box Posted March 8 Report Posted March 8 There should be a notch in the bottom of the dash, under the key switch. It gives you access to a screw that holds the switch in place. Remove the screw and the switch can come out the back. That’s how mine are. Quote
Doug&Deb Posted March 8 Author Report Posted March 8 Thanks. Does the tumbler assembly need to come out first? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 8 Report Posted March 8 the barrel and key assembly slips into the switch housing and is independent of the electrical section/functions. IF your key works smoothly there is no need to remove the key and barrel. Quote
Doug&Deb Posted March 8 Author Report Posted March 8 Thanks. I’m checking wire connections first then I’ll decide if I need to remove the tumbler assembly. Quote
Sniper Posted March 8 Report Posted March 8 Probably wouldn't hurt to put some lock specific lube in the tumbler assembly. Quote
Doug&Deb Posted March 9 Author Report Posted March 9 My ignition switch is directly above the ashtray. Even though it slides out the assembly that it slides on is in the way. I’ll have to investigate further. If anyone has a 51 or 52 Coronet I can sure use the help. Quote
58prostreet Posted March 9 Report Posted March 9 Believe it or not the ignition switch fell out of the dash in my my 52 Wayfarer a couple of days ago. I'm 77 years old and too stiff to lay upside down and try to tighten it up . So, I pulled the front seat out and laid up under the dash and tighten the set screw. It is still hard to reach, but a whole lot easier with seat pushed out the right door. It only took about 20 minutes to remove seat. Push seat all way forward and 8 bolts and trim removal makes it quick and easy. good luck Bob P.S. It's also a good time to clean up some of the crap that accumulates under there. Quote
