desoto1939 Posted November 15, 2023 Report Posted November 15, 2023 That will do it everytime. Had similar situation on my 39 Desoto. Used the car in my daughters wedding. When we were getting ready to take the car back hom ehte next day i noticed that the char was not charging. I was able to get home just on the battery. The next day the car was dead as a door nail. Thought that maybe the generator needed to be rebuilt. Started looking around in the engine area and then went to the volt regulator and also saw that the wire coming from the generator the A wire had broken off at the terminal end at the VR. I put on a jumper wire from the gen A post to the A post on the VR nad was able to get the issue solved. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com 1 Quote

Veemoney Posted November 15, 2023 Report Posted November 15, 2023 Use some shrink tube on it when you do the fix. Helps to keep it clean and reduces the strain on the crimp/wire connection. 1 Quote
Ivan_B Posted November 15, 2023 Report Posted November 15, 2023 (edited) Also, if you want good connection for that wire, for a long time, I would solder that wire connection (propane torch + copper plumbing solder and flux). Edited November 15, 2023 by Ivan_B 1 Quote
OUTFXD Posted November 15, 2023 Author Report Posted November 15, 2023 was taped up between two other wires, which is why I didnt find it when I was looking at connections. Up graded it to 8g /w shrink wrapped connections. 3 Quote

Yes, you want good strain relief to prevent this from happening again. When I rewired my 51 every connection was crimped, soldered and heat shrinked. Then the wire runs were taped together using cloth electrical tape for further relief. 4 Quote
