Man the 6v starter is struggling with the tightness of this engine. Would hooking 12v ruin my generator

Car runs. Have a leak of course. My upper water outlet tube somehow cracked during I stall and I didn't see it.

How do I do a video

I put it on You Tube and post a link here.  I don't think you can directly put a video here.

For those of us that are You Tube challenged, I have put their video up on my You Tube channel and sent them the link.

I'm not liking my temp reading. So the block is clean as a whistle and the rad flows good. I have a 180 thermostat with a small hole drilled in it to circulate. The water pump physically looks fine. The temps are taken with my thermo imager. 230 at the rear, 220 in the middle, 190 at the front. 180 at the thermostat housing and hose to the radiator. 150 at the radiator core. The water pump is a straight vain pump with no water bypass or heater hoses (no heater), I feel there is not enough flow. There is no water distribution tube or nothing like that. It's a primitive design and trying to think of a way to improve it.aybe 160 tstat with a small hole drilled in it?

A lower rated thermostat will only delay the amount of time it takes to get to whatever maximum temperature your engine is going to run at. I am not real impressed with the impeller design on our old pumps so I look into getting a more modern setup. I looked at taken a multivan impeller off of a newer water pump and putting it onto one that fit my engine. Turns out the new water pump I bought already beat me to the punch. But you might look into that more vanes or maybe a smaller pulley to get it to spin faster.  One other thing I noticed about my honeycomb radiator was that it was packed full of fine dust pull it took me about a half an hour with the hose to get it clean but I did

Last summer I removed the radiator and flushed from both ends for about 2 hours, that's after running flush through the system for 4 hours. Water was clean and flowed right out. I may do it again in a month or so.

Ok so I'm still struggling with the temps. I did put a 160 tstat in it. I know that's not a fix. I checked the water pump design and I have come to the conclusion that it only circulates with the thermostat open. No water bypass and the water only goes to the center of the centrifugal pump vane from the lower rad hose. The rest of the water sets outside the paddle wheel as I call it. What's your thoughts.

I took my 180 tstat and gutted it and reinstalled it. Water now flows good. Temps are more even. 180 at water outlet and 200 at the back of the engine. Im going to leave it like this till break-in is done.

Since I had to figure out most of this on my own(with no info out there) can I mark all of my posts as solutions and rise my rankings ?

I was referring to the exterior of the fins packed full of fine west Texas dust,

my memories of Clovis and the drives back and forth from Muleshoe exactly. Along with racer snakes and the large rabbits come to mind whenever that area is mentioned.

My favorite memories was driving off the road to pass convoys and the desert land being as smooth as the road

So I have have a 6 blade flex fan I had to modify and install. Using 1"painters tape I have cut 1" of from every blade so they wouldn't hit the belts. Then I made my own spacer out of 3/4" aluminum flat stock . Drilled out the center hole to an inch, drilled the other 4 holes. Then put it on a lathe and turned the outer edge round. Then thinned it down to 5/8" thick. Installed my modified fan in the tight sleeping quarters and have 3/8" clearance between the belts and between the blades and radiator.

So i have had a hesitation with the car for most of the summer. Feels fuel related. Falls on its face then takes off. Anything over 1/2 throttle seems to be no difference. Middle plugs fouled and end plugs dry. Seams like fuel not atomizing well. Updraft carburetor hard to find. Made every adjustment imaginable with fuel and spark. Now its winter slumber so its time to tear apart stuff. I ordered a parts carburetor and a Delco Remy distributor. Different distributor for parts availability and the parts carb to try different jets. The parts carb also had an updated adjustable main jet in it something i have been looking for. As always I will post pictures and updates regularly.

The distributor was in great condition, very tight and clean, all delco parts in it. Points and condenser look original. It looks like a barn find low mileage or rebuilt and found on a shelf. Started sanding for paint.

Disassemble old and new carbs and clean. Repainted the old carb and the new carb and true up the surface.
