hbpaints
Good Afternoon... So in my saga of trying to find parts for my 1947 Dodge D24 Custom, I have come across a 1947 Chrysler Windsor. The Windsor is approx a 12hr drive from me, so hard to just pop over and have a look... I realize trim and fit and finish is different, but... My question is... Sheetmetal? Front doors to be exact... From the picture's they look the same, have the same extension of the front fender into the door, etc... But are they the same? Will any other parts work? It's a complete car... so might be worth my time if I can use stuff off it? Any thought's or experience swapping from these models? Thanks in advance... Doug&Deb
The Chrysler,DeSoto, and Dodge all used the same body shell. The difference is in the front end. If you’re looking for doors you should be fine. I’ll check my parts book when I’m able and confirm.
Doug&Deb
As I suspected the doors are the same part number from 42-48.
FarmerJon
Wait, so the 3 nicer brands shared sheet metal, but the cheap plymouth got it's own? I believe you, but that makes no $ense.
DonaldSmith
They made a whole pile of Plymouths. Volume. The knew how to count the beans. Chrysler-Plymouth dealerships - DeSoto-Plymouth dealerships. Plus they used the same body for Canadian "Plodges" and export DeSotos.
Conn47D24
What body style are they the same? 4 Dr coupes, etc?

The 46-48 cars had the front fenders streamlined into the doors. the 1942 model did not. I just checked my 42 and 46-48 DeSoto Parts lists and the part number for the doors are different. Doug&Deb
You’re correct. My old eyes misread the years.
dpollo
The Plymouth was a smaller car however, it shared many mechanical components with its larger cousins like axles and wheel bearings which made it more robust. In 60 years, I have changed remarkably few bearings and suspension components in Plymouths.
hbpaints
Still looking for a lead on a drivers side door for my US made Dodge D24 C, or even just the outer door sheet metal panel. It's the one with the "fender bulge" going into the door... Found one in Indiana, but the shipping is going to kill me.... Any leads would be appreciated... Thanks in advance...
