Needed to pick up some cigarettes (cancer sticks as my son calls them:) ) today. Haven't driven the coupe for about a week or so, so decided to take it. Got about 5 blocks from the house and got pulled over. Not by the police, but by the sanitation collection guy. Was going to go around the truck but the guy wanted me to pull behind it and stop, so did. Was the same guy who was asking my wife about the coupe about a week ago. He has a 65 Ford Gal. LTD., 2 door hardtop. Said he knows where every old car in the neighborhood is because he sees them in the garages and driveways all the time. Said there's a bunch in the neighborhood, which I already knew. Even he made the comment about the one guy in the neighborhood with the other P15 coupe that sits in the driveway rotting away. Said he's been collecting the garbage in our neighborhood since the 70's and that coupe was there then. Told him I offered the guy a free running engine once. He wanted it until I told him he had to come pick it up, then said no. Said he and his partner was taking a little break. Guess they had just finished chasing a raccoon out of their truck.:D Talked for about 5 or 10 minutes then went on our way. There's car guys all over the place.

Our sanitation workers get to see whats in everyones garage around here. That's because from the end of December to the end of March we don't set it out in the street. They walk up the driveways into peoples yard and take it out during those months. All we have to do is make sure the snow isn't piled up blocking the cart.

What's to tell? I just went to pick up some cigarettes, then back home. Was just an ordinary trip, nothing special. Could have done it a lot quicker in the van though. Then I would not have been pulled over and got back quicker.

So I guess you will not be driving your coupe to buy fags anymore:cool:

Yeah, but what fun would that have been. You met another car nut and they enjoyed looking at your car. That's what this hobby is all about. :)

Sure I will. Gotta "smoke, smoke, smoke those cigarettes" just like the song says.:)

Steve, it's not that I don't like and have fun meeting car guys. It's just that when I go somewhere in the coupe it seems it always takes longer, because people always stop to talk to you. That's ok sometimes, but others you just want to get what you have to do done, then stopping to BS cuts into that time. Today I was in no hurry, so it was ok.

Smoke Smoke Smoke That Cigarette

Merle Travis/Tex Ritter

1. Now I'm a fella with a heart of gold - With the ways of a gentleman I've been told

A kind of a guy that wouldn't even harm a flea

But if me and a certain character met - The guy that invented the cigarette

I'd murder that son of a gun in the first degree

2. It ain't that I don't smoke myself - And I don't reckon they'll hinder your health

I've smoked them all my life and I ain't dead yet

But nicotine slaves are all the same - At a pettin’ party or a poker game

Everythin's gotta stop while you have that cigarette

Smoke smoke smoke that cigarette puff puff puff and if you smoke yourself to death

Tell St Peter at the Golden Gate that you hate to make him wait

But you just gotta have another cigarette

3. Now at a game of chance the other night - Ol' Dame Fortune was a doin' me right

The kings and queens just kept on comin' round

And I got a full and I bettet high - But my bluff didn't work on a certain guy

He just kept a risin' and layin' his money down

4. He'd raise me and I'd raise him - And I sweated blood you gotta sink or swim

He finally called and he couldn’t raise the bet

I said “aces full pal how about you? - He said “I'll tell you in a minute or two

But right now I just gotta have another cigarette?

Smoke smoke smoke...

[ piano ]

5. Now the other night I had me a date - With the cutest little gal in the fifty states

One of them highbred up-town fancy little dames

She said she loved me and it seemed to me - That things were just about like they oughta be

So hand in hand we strolled down Lover's Lane

6. She was oh so far from a chunk of ice - And our smoochin' party was a goin' real nice

So help me Hannah and I think I'd of been there yet

I give her a kiss and a little squeeze - And she said “would you excuse me please

But I just gotta have another cigarette?

Smoke smoke smoke... X 2

You just gotta have another cigarette

Don, you are too freakin' funny! Asleep at the wheel, one of my all-time favorites.

Original Norm, ya gotta slow down and smell the roses. It's all in the journey, not the destination. Wow, that was deep.

That's the problem. The journey. Years ago I use to love to drive anywhere, anytime. However today, after logging all those miles for work in cars and planes, eating out, and hotel rooms, I'd rather just stay home. Don't like to fly anymore either because you have to hurry up and get to the airport 2 to 3 hours early, then sit there with your thumbs between your......... waiting. So that's no fun now either.

Use to be you'd schedule a flight, get there about 30 minutes early to check in, get on the plane and your off. Not anymore. It's only about 400 miles from here to St. Louis. However, to get there by plane from here you have to fly to Chicago, then about an hour layover there, then on to St. Louis. By the time you add the 2 hour check in here, 30 minutes flight time to Chicago, 1 hour layover in Chicago, then another 2 hours to St. Louis you've racked up about 5 1/2 hours. And, that's only if the plane takes off on time, which is rare today. You could also end up circling O'Hare for an extra 30 minutes to an hour trying to land. You can make the drive there in about 7 or 8 hours and you're not sitting around doing nothing.

As for eating out, I'd rather stay at home and have a hot dog or eggs and toast than go out for a steak dinner.

Bottom line. When I do go somewhere, I like to keep moving to get there and back.

"Smoke, Smoke, Smoke That Cigatette" was a national #1 hit in 1947. I've played it in my '47 and it liked it...it just seems to run better with that music playing in it. ;)

Norm..one of my favorite meals for supper is BREAKFAST....man I fix the soft fried (lid on) ptoatoes, good bacon, cold milk, homemade blackberry jam, toast, omelet and cup of coffee to top it off...matter of fact I told Sal last night that is what I would like for supper tonight..by the time you even consider going to Wendy's for a burger and salad etc..I can go by the commissary as I leave work and grab a couple nice T-bones (with meat) and have salad, steak and baked potato for less money..

Tim, I'm the same way except for the jam and milk. Don't remember the last time I've eaten either of those. I do like the fried potato's brown though. It is cheaper to eat at home, however the primary reason I'd rather eat at home is because it's more relaxing and taste better to me. I just like plain food (meat & potato's). Wife keeps saying she runs out of different things to fix. I keep telling her just throw some meat in the pan and make some potato's and green beans, that's all I need. But.........she keeps looking for new recipes anyway.
