Brad Lustig Posted November 7, 2007 Report Posted November 7, 2007 I've heard that these have been passed off as originals with success http://www.licenseplates.tv/cat/virginia_188.html Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 8, 2007 Report Posted November 8, 2007 Call George Asche. He might know a source Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted November 8, 2007 Report Posted November 8, 2007 If all else fails to locate your plates, try hitting some of the larger swap meets in your area. Around here there are always several people with boxes and boxes of old plates for sale at the larger meets. Still no guarantee you'll find the one you want though. But.......nothing ventured, nothing gained. Half the fun of these old cars is the hunt for items we need for them. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 8, 2007 Report Posted November 8, 2007 I sometimes see 46-47- or 48 Missouri plates at flea markets or swap meets. However I don't really need any of them. So, you might follow Norm's advice if you can. You might also watch ebay for guys selling plates. Even though you may not see your state in their ads, might email them thru "ask seller a question" to see if they have what you want. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 8, 2007 Report Posted November 8, 2007 With the recent changes in YOM laws slipping forward to as far as 1970 and other new states adding YOM laws...tags can be a bit more harder to come by and will more than not be a tad more expensive...especially for states with YOM laws and matched sets are always in high demand and are equally higher in coin..Gerogia just slipped their years forward to cover most of the muscle car years..and I have not had much luck in finding a 47 tag lately either...but..we do have a swap meet this month..maybe will find a good tag at a good price..will want a 58 tag also..anyone have need of a pristine 59 Georgia tag...I got extremely lucky finding a matched set of 41 original finish Georgia tags and even got a 41 georgia trailer tag...sure it is not for a teardrop or such..but will look cool on a teardrop..behind the 41 coupe with its orginal Georgia tags also. Dennis_MN Posted November 8, 2007 Report Posted November 8, 2007 I thought that I scored a real deal when I found a set of 1949 Minnesota plates on Craigs List. When I went to register them I found the problem, that number series was re-used on collector plates and I couldn't register them. The next set that I found, I asked the seller for the number then I checked with the Motor Vehicle dept and found they were good so then I bought them. Tough to do at a swap meet etc. Since I have a pickup, I found a set of 1949 truck plates with a "T" as a prefix and that wasn't re-issued. If anyone needs a set of 1949 Minnesota car plates, send me $20 Dennis Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 8, 2007 Report Posted November 8, 2007 Dennis, if you just wanted the plates for show......and not to really use on the car.....you could use the first set, but would have to be swapping them at show time. Reckon it's easier to get the right and legal thing. I have a '47 MO tag - they only used one - but rather like my pair of antique tags from the 70s. So I sometimes just put the old tag out for display. Have not checked....but think we can use YOM here. Quote
Rodger S-11 Posted November 8, 2007 Report Posted November 8, 2007 Hola All I use a set of 1947 Colo Plates on our 1947 De Soto. I also have an set of 1962 Colo Plates for an 1962 Imperial Crown two door. Rodger & Gabby COS Quote
Young Ed Posted November 8, 2007 Report Posted November 8, 2007 I've got YOM plates on my 46 pickup and the 48. The 46Truck plate was hard to find. Took me a couple years of swap meeting to get one. Now I have 2 The 48 came with a set of MN 1948 plates. If anyone needs some other year MN plates I have a bunch that an elderly neighbor gave me. Quote
bigred48 Posted November 8, 2007 Report Posted November 8, 2007 how do you register your car with old plates in MN? I didn't know that it was an option right now my car is registered with collecter plates. Quote
Young Ed Posted November 8, 2007 Report Posted November 8, 2007 You take the plates to a lisence center and apply for them. They take a photo copy of the plate and mail it in. I think the fee was 10 bucks if you already had collector plates. Then you get a post card saying either they are good or try again with a new #. I may even have an extra plate(dont think I have a set though) Quote
