flathead Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 Hey I'm Mike Rubino from Sultan, WA. I bought my 1948 B1B about 3 weeks ago, it runs but needs brake work. Found the parts I needed (thanks Merle Coggins!). It is my first "old truck" project, and I'm glad I found this forum. Lots of info, great buncha guys. Quote
Young Ed Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 Hey Mike Looks like you got a nice solid start. Just out of curiousity do you have a rear shot that shows the fenders better? The back fenders look odd to me. Could just be me though Welcome to the group! Quote

Merle Coggins Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 A good wax job and she'll be good as new. Looks like a great project. I agree with Ed on the rear fenders. They are definitely not correct for a 48-52 Dodge truck. And they're not '53 fenders either. Ed would know better, but it may be pre-Pilot House bed. Not a problem though. They did offer a short side bed for the Pilot House trucks, which was the earlier bed style, but the fenders were different than the earlier trucks. Enjoy the project. Merle Quote
Falcon(63) Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 I have a short side 51 and my fenders aren't like that one. Quote
Young Ed Posted November 7, 2007 Report Posted November 7, 2007 The pre pilothouse beds are completely smooth sided. So it would have to be 39-47 fenders on a pilothouse bed. I have seen that once before. Quote

Dodgeb4ya Posted November 7, 2007 Report Posted November 7, 2007 Low sides are smooth sides. My 52 low side is smooth sided. Quote
flathead Posted November 7, 2007 Author Report Posted November 7, 2007 You are all correct; Someone put an odd fender on that side, stock one still on the other. I did not notice it for 2 weeks! Quote
flathead Posted November 7, 2007 Author Report Posted November 7, 2007 Mike is it mopar or brand x Ed - I don't know what you mean. Somebody previous to me, put that fender on. The other side still has a stock one on. Odd thing though, the tailgate does not say DODGE; it's just blank... Quote
Merle Coggins Posted November 7, 2007 Report Posted November 7, 2007 Tailgate may be a reproduction. Any of the repops I've seen don't have the "Dodge" embossed into them. I suppose it's because they can't get the rights from Mother Chrylser. Merle Quote
Young Ed Posted November 7, 2007 Report Posted November 7, 2007 There are 39-47 repro dodge gates made. Not sure why they wouldn't do it for 48-53s. Also for 39-47 dodge offered blank gates as an option so you could put your own advertising in that space. Dads yellow truck came with a plain gate and there is no way that was a repro. Mike does your odd fender look like this? Quote

Mike does your odd fender look like this? Ed - The odd fender is the one viewable in the picture. On the driver's side it's a stock one (like the one on the red truck up above) not like the one in your picture. I need a stock right side; anyone have one for sale? As for the blank tailgate, it has to be the one that came with the truck originally.... Quote
Reg Evans Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 Ed - I don't know what you mean. Somebody previous to me, put that fender on. The other side still has a stock one on. Odd thing though, the tailgate does not say DODGE; it's just blank... The later model stepsides had a plain tailgate without the embossed lettering. Just painted. Maybe it's one of these. http://www.sweptlineparts.com/body/23-09.gif Quote
Scott Klassen Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 Looks like a Studebaker fender to me. Hacked up wheelwell, but 1947 Stude all the way to my eye. Quote
