andyd Posted July 7, 2022 Report Posted July 7, 2022 Does anyone know where exactly the chassis or frame number is located on a 1946-48 Chrysler New Yorker?...........thanks.....andyd Quote
joecoozie Posted July 7, 2022 Report Posted July 7, 2022 on the driver's side around the kick up for the rear axle Quote
Doug&Deb Posted July 7, 2022 Report Posted July 7, 2022 Are you considering a new project Andy? Quote
Furylee2 Posted July 8, 2022 Report Posted July 8, 2022 Can’t answer on a Chrysler, but this is where it’s located on a 41 Plymouth. Quote
andyd Posted July 8, 2022 Author Report Posted July 8, 2022 Unfortunately no new project........just thought I'd try to help a mate here in Oz who is doing up a 48 Chrysler.............I'd love to know the reasoning that was used for putting the number on that part of the frame, instead of an easily found and seen spot in the engine bay area.........strange........lol. James_Douglas Posted July 8, 2022 Report Posted July 8, 2022 On the Desoto, the '49, it was on the top of the frame mid-way down the frame rail on the drivers side. I have never had the '47 Desoto's body off to take a look. James Quote
Doug&Deb Posted July 9, 2022 Report Posted July 9, 2022 I’m guessing that location was convenient for the assembly line workers and not meant for crazy people like us 75 years later lol. Quote
JerseyHarold Posted July 9, 2022 Report Posted July 9, 2022 The chassis numbers were probably located in out-of-the-way places so law enforcement could identify stolen vehicles if the need arose. The chassis number was also the only place on the car that tied the engine number to the rest of the vehicle. Quote
Woodie Posted July 10, 2022 Report Posted July 10, 2022 The engine number is stamped on the frame just behind the drivers rear wheel housing towards gas tank filler tube. Serial number is in drivers front door hinge pillar Quote
