Kilgore47 Posted April 9, 2022 Report Posted April 9, 2022 The internet has been down here in East Texas since Thursday afternoon. It's supposed to have a triple redundant backup. That means that a failure is almost impossible. But it can happen. All three systems going down at one time is most unusual. All three systems staying down should not happen. The cell service in this area has been off and on this entire time also. When the cell service is up it's terrible. This is inconvenient for me but terrible for all the businesses in this area. They haven't given us an estimate as to when it will be back up and running again. It has taken me over an hour to get connected and do this on my phone. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted April 9, 2022 Report Posted April 9, 2022 feel your pain....we were hit Thursday when the third severe rain band passed through... I was awakened a minute of two before 4 AM shut down the computer....went to the kitchen and started to make a pot of coffee....lightening ran in on the phone line....heard the one in the kitchen go pop...burnt smell was most awful. Lost phone service, tested at the house connection box, nothing there. Called it in at 4:29 AM. Back up and running that evening but not after a second call as I did a follow up and had an extended window for service....bit upset with rural areas always taking a back seat to city folks. Figured I upset them as the line was disconnected on their end. 45 minutes later service truck in the driveway. Turns out, everyone lost service, many had their modems with side blow out. I am back up at 6 that same day, new service jacks in the house and whatever they had to do the line/drop. I did hit Wally World for new phones at 7AM as I knew their would be a run on phones. oh, 2.5 days....7 inches of rain...4 of them with the three bands Wednesday after noon to Thursday 4 AM....calm at 5:30 on....in that period was a few many tornado warning and out community siren fired twice with sightings...do not care for T-storms and winds... Kilgore47 Posted April 10, 2022 Author Report Posted April 10, 2022 After two full days the internet is back. A cable was cut in the Dalas area and all three redundant back ups run through the same conduit. Not sure that can be called redundant if all three can fail from a single action. And I agree - I don't like the spring storms. I do like spring - I'm a plant person. Moved away from the gulf coast 20 years ago to get away from hurricanes. Didn't realize I was moving into a tornado area. A few years back I had a problem with trees falling and damaging buildings caused by the spring storms. Happened three times in two years. After that I hired a local tree company and had them cut down all the trees that could reach the house. Really hated to do that and loose all that summer shade but I got tired of worrying about it every time a storm came through. Quote
Los_Control Posted April 10, 2022 Report Posted April 10, 2022 Too bad about your trees, the shade is nice and also a huge savings on your AC every year. When the wife & I were searching for a home to buy using the internet, we saw several in East TX that we liked. Knowing it was on the edge of "Tornado alley" & it seemed almost every home had some sort of tornado shelter installed .... We steered clear & settled for West Texas. Weather is a trade off. East TX has some beautiful country, trees & grass, wild vegetation .... West TX, if I lived any further West I feel I would be in the desert, I have crab grass and some trees, sage brush etc ... we have wind & heat but no Tornadoes. Quote
Sniper Posted April 11, 2022 Report Posted April 11, 2022 Interesting, I am in Raleigh NC right now, internet at the hotel is spotty. I wonder if the issue is something else instead? Quote
