MarcDeSoto Posted January 21, 2022 Report Posted January 21, 2022 I'm re-hanging my exhaust system now, and realized that the hangers are a bit too loose toward the rear. The two hangers toward the rear of the tail pipe have rubber parts that are worn and loose. Does anyone sell these hangers? I checked Bernbaum's and he doesn't sell exhaust parts anymore. Thanks. RobertKB Posted January 21, 2022 Report Posted January 21, 2022 Nearest muffler shop will have hangers that will work. Most auto supply places also. Always think local first. 1 Quote

MarcDeSoto Posted January 21, 2022 Author Report Posted January 21, 2022 Looks like Bernbaum sells the rear rubber tail pipe insulator piece that goes up between the cross support at the rear. the metal parts are OK, so looks like the rear hanger is solved. But there is a mid way hanger with a rubber insulator that I can't find. https://www.ebay.com/itm/184341186539?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3D45c4fed26b2b4034ba5e705678d72e3a%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D384461558746%26itm%3D184341186539%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2380057%26brand%3DMopar&_trksid=p2380057.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3Aa454471b-7a7d-11ec-a0a5-9aa5987126d7|parentrq%3A7b2d136617e0a4d496d9f5e2ffffa470|iid%3A1 Quote

desoto1939 Posted January 21, 2022 Report Posted January 21, 2022 (edited) The same above rubber grommet was also used by Chevy around 1937 they are both the same grommet. NOS 1937-50 Chevrolet Passenger Car Tailpipe Support Rubber Grommet GM 593638 $8.95 on ebay Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com Edited January 21, 2022 by desoto1939 Quote
MarcDeSoto Posted January 23, 2022 Author Report Posted January 23, 2022 Instead of getting the Chevrolet grommet, I got the on from mopar direct on Ebay for Mopar and it cost less. I installed the universal hanger for the middle hanger and it worked nicely. Even though the back hanger is not installed yet, the tailpipe firmed right up! I'm waiting for the rear grommet to come in the mail as the metal parts are fine. I don't think anyone sells the original hanger for the middle anymore as it is somewhat complex. The metal was fine, but the rubber insulator was ready to fall apart as I show in these pics. Quote
Sniper Posted January 23, 2022 Report Posted January 23, 2022 That rubber part looks like it could have been replaced. I assume it's riveted tot eh metal parts. A strip of fiber reinforced rubber matching the dimensions of the old part and some bolts might have done it. 1 Quote
MarcDeSoto Posted January 24, 2022 Author Report Posted January 24, 2022 Yes, I was thinking that and you are right that the rubber was riveted on. I guess I should at least save the part and see if I can do that by drilling out the rivets and installed new rubber and nuts and bolts. Quote
61spit Posted January 24, 2022 Report Posted January 24, 2022 This look like the old one you have pictured. I got a couple of them over the years for my Plymouth. https://www.ebay.com/itm/174824144190?epid=1123277774&hash=item28b454bd3e:g:-IIAAOSw0TheEhzs 2 Quote
