Hey, guys...trying to ID a block...the head number is 1120805-2, which according to mymopar.com is a Dodge 25-inch truck/industrial head that was used on 1948-60 251 blocks, 1953-60 265 blocks without a full-flow filter, and 1961-65 265 blocks with a full-flow filter. The only number on the block that I can see (I'm looking at photos in an ad, not the actual engine itself) is S11-214699, which is on a tag just below the head and just ahead of the oil filler pipe, and which I can't find anywhere. Any ideas? Should there be a block casting number somewhere else? Thanks!

That S11-214699 looks like an engine number for a vehicle code of S11 which would be a 1946-48 DeSoto.

Hey, Tod...thanks! I guess that would make it a '48 251, unless the head and block are mixed and matched...

A S11 DeSoto engine was a 236 ci.

The piston stroke needs to be measured to see what the actual the displacement of your engine is.

It might be the shorter 4-1/4" 236 DeSoto or the 4-1/2" 251 Chrysler.

The Chrysler 265 stroke was 4-3/4".

Above info is USA production.

DeSoto and Chrysler blocks are both 3-7/16" std bore.

Hey while we are on the subject, I just acquired a 23 inch engine with a number I haven’t seen before.

L230-xxxxxx

What is it?
