rearview
OK guys... tell me I'm nuts. Here's what I'm thinking. Remove the bottom leaf or two from the rear spring pack. Stack them on top of the main leaf. This should effectively: 1. remove their force from the combined force of the pack allowing it to sag little more, and 2. put them above the center of the spring, lowering the car by the thickness of the leafs. So.. is it nuts? Or might it actually work? I'm not looking at dropping it 2"... I only need an inch or so. bob
Don Coatney
Why bother with all that work. If you want to lower your car one inch in the rear toss a 100 pound sand bag in the trunk and be done with it.
rearview
Don... that's too easy.
Plymouthy Adams
back in the old days this was a very easily done...matter of fact most women could even do this..I am not saying this to pick on any certian gender either may I add...it was simply done by driving in the existing ruts... Young Ed
Bob how about a second spare tire? Lots of emergency tools? You could move the battery to the trunk for improved drag launches. Gotta be something with weight thats more useful then sand.

I was thinking of going stealth on the sand. I've got a vintage cooled that could get filled... And good joke... Flat 6 with fluid drive... drag launches... you crack me up. anthonyb
A bag of sand would fit very nicely under the bottom of the rear seat....
billwillard
With a little time rear springs are easy to lower. 1. place a 2in block between spring and axle. You have to buy longer U bolts. Car will be 2in lower. 2. Remove springs and place them on the floor with arch up. Measure from floor to centering bolt. Now put spring in a press and bend slightly in 4 or 5 different places until you have lowered this measuerment the amount you want to lower car. Reinstall springs and ride CLYDE. Brendan D25
Clyde, have you done #2? Would the spring hanger then be moved 2" back? I am wondering if it would hit on the chassis if extra weight was put in the car. Brendan.
splat1955
To be honest, I don't see how #2 is easy or how it would take just "a little " time with having to pull them out, measure and then spend the time on a press, remeasuring until you get one spring bent correctly, the there's the other side to do, and then on top of all that, I don't see how any of that bending can be good for the spring or any of the other springs in that pack....am I missing something or did I read that wrong? billwillard
Brendan, I have done #2. Nothing will move except the height of you'r car. Turn the spring upside down on the floor and measure from the floor to the centering bolt. If you measure 13in slightly bend in 5 places until you measure 11in from floor. Your car will now be 2in lower.
BobT-47P15
I put a couple of those tubes of sand you get at a farm supply in right behind the back seat, thru the trunk. I think they are 60 pounds each. Prior to that I had two old straight eight heads in there. They serve to lower the car just a little, but they also add weight to make it feel more substantial and less rattly. I did re-wrap the sand tubes in black plastic as those tubes are not very strong....will tear pretty quickly.....at least the ones I got. I first put in 3 sand tubes.....but that felt too heavy.....so removed one.....felt better.
Norm's Coupe
Bob, Why not just put some lowering blocks in and call it a day. Or, you can buy new leaf springs that are made to lower the car 2".
billwillard
To Splat 1955 You can remove your springs and take them to a spring shop and ask them to rearch them for you. Just tell them how much you want to lower your car and they will put them in the press and bend them for you. #80.00 to 100.00 bucks. I was only telling you how it can be done. Blocks and new U boldts is the fastest way. you'r chose.

jhoop_22
oh wow. just and introduce, I am Josh from south australia, i'm originally a mini trucker (you may now shudder) and yeas, taking out that bottom leaf is awesome (diff banging on chassis just shows how awesome you are), no really, i recommend reset leafs, they work much better. depending how low you go, it is worth thinking about short shockies
