8.0 earthquake

Just had an 8.0 earthquake.  Centered 320 miles south of us.  Not much to write home about.

The water is receding in Kodiak harbor right now.

They cancelled Tsunami warnings in Washington, Oregon, and California........which is good for us down here.....I think warnings are still in affect around Alaska.

It's down to a watch right now.  News said that most likely nothing coming but strong currents and up to 1 ft wave.

funny thing is, I am surprised our schools aren't closed because Alaska had an earthquake and tsunami warning.

(they close for everything else it seems)

Our school system will have snow days when there is no snow....if predicted, they err on the side of caution as we have ZERO snow equipment for clearing highways...yeah, it is often a running joke but deep inside we know the whys and wherefores.  Welcome to the sunny south (sunny for the most part that is)

LOL here in MN the effects of dumbing down our country are in full effect.  Schools closed on Monday because it was forecast to snow...granted some parts of the state got 16"...but the THREAT of snow now cancels school.  I barely had a snow day as a kid and our average winter accumulation was bigger then and forecasts LESS predictable.

as a child growing up in the snowy northern half of this country...snow days were not uncommon as the bus could not trek the mountain road to pick up the kids.  Great if you were a sixth grader or better....the local grade school never got a snow day...less than a 1/4 mile from the house.  You miss school while attending there the teacher would come to your house and give you a beating....for male students it was a daily part of the curriculum.
