Branded Posted November 30, 2017 Report Posted November 30, 2017 (edited) I found this inside the water jacket of my 230 engine that I'm rebuilding. I'm guessing it's remnants front the casting process. Edited November 30, 2017 by Branded Quote

knuckleharley Posted November 30, 2017 Report Posted November 30, 2017 WOW! That had to have some effect on the cooling. Quote
DrDoctor Posted November 30, 2017 Report Posted November 30, 2017 Wow!!! One can find the strangest things in the strangest places. I have, but they pale in comparison to this!!! Thx. Quote
greg g Posted December 1, 2017 Report Posted December 1, 2017 No worse than finding a pair of forceps on the wrong side of an operation scar..... Some times tools of the trade get inadvertantly left behind. No offense intended!!! Quote
Matt Wilson Posted December 1, 2017 Report Posted December 1, 2017 I get the impression that it's not uncommon to find remnants of the support structure used during the casting of these engines. My 230 has stuff that looks like coat hanger wire in the water jackets, and I've heard and seen photos from a few other folks who found wire-like pieces in their flatheads, but this one seems a little more substantial in size. I did also find remnants of short pieces of wire about 1/2" in length also. The piece pictured was between cylinders 5-6 and the outer wall of the block. I removed it from the rear casting hole. dpollo Posted December 1, 2017 Report Posted December 1, 2017 I think that the years and bad water have destroyed the remnants of the casting sand reinforcing wires . No harm done. Quote
