Bingster Posted July 23, 2017 Report Posted July 23, 2017 I'm making some new battery cables and I assume the red battery terminal is the positive. I've got a 50/50 chance. By the way, I did use my hand grinder to cut the cable and it was smooooth. Thanks. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 23, 2017 Report Posted July 23, 2017 these older car did not use red battery cable....the size of the battery post dictates which cable goes to which terminal on the battery......red became popular later on with the 12 volt system Quote
Bingster Posted July 23, 2017 Author Report Posted July 23, 2017 All the cable is black but one of the terminal connectors is red. Should they both be black? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 23, 2017 Report Posted July 23, 2017 you are using later aftermarket painted terminal that make it very easy for folks never to mix them up......using them painted as such is purely your call and nothing wrong with it whatsoever.... Quote
Bingster Posted July 23, 2017 Author Report Posted July 23, 2017 Thanks. Although I suppose the length of each cable is a dead giveaway. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 23, 2017 Report Posted July 23, 2017 as long as you using the correct gauge....not a big whoop there either... Quote

DonaldSmith Posted July 24, 2017 Report Posted July 24, 2017 Now, when you show your car, some lookers-on will be surprised to see the red-ended cable fastened to the block, and green going to the region of the starter. Yep, old Chrysler made his cars positive ground. Quote
keithb7 Posted July 24, 2017 Report Posted July 24, 2017 I stampted the top of the lead posts on my battey with a + and a -. To help my sons remember what goes where, in the event they are out and need a jump. As mentioned all my cables are black. With a 6V, positive ground, and all black cables you got lots of opportunity to screw up a boost. Quote
