casper50 Posted February 17, 2017 Report Posted February 17, 2017 When I removed my "redone by a previous owner" package tray it had 4 or 5 button head spring clips that held the tray down in the middle to conform to the large curve. Is this original or not? Upon looking at the metal under the cover there are about 20 small holes that could be for these springs. I would believe that due to the extreme curvature of the tray that it might need that many. Anyone know? Quote
rb1949 Posted February 18, 2017 Report Posted February 18, 2017 If it works, use them. Probably available, but don't know a name/number to order more. Those were on my door/kick panels. Quote
Branded Posted February 18, 2017 Report Posted February 18, 2017 (edited) How many of the clips do you need I may have a few. heres a supplier that has a set of the $10.95 http://www.macsautoparts.com/ford_truck_late/ford-pickup-truck-door-panel-trim-clip-set-enough-for-2-doors.html Edited February 18, 2017 by Branded Quote
casper50 Posted February 18, 2017 Author Report Posted February 18, 2017 I have 20. I'd like to know if the car came with those holding down the package tray. 1 Quote
Branded Posted February 18, 2017 Report Posted February 18, 2017 OK. Didn't catch the originality part in you post. Can't answer if they was used to hold down the package tray from the factory. My 49 Wayfarer Roadster rear shelf has been reupholstered and has none now. Quote
49D-24BusCpe Posted February 18, 2017 Report Posted February 18, 2017 Casper, The D-24 parts book indicates that seven 910752 fasteners are used on the 'Shelf Panel'! Walt Quote
casper50 Posted February 18, 2017 Author Report Posted February 18, 2017 Thanks Walt. Now to find a photo showing placement. There's a lot of factory holes in the metal tray under the cardboard. Quote
busycoupe Posted February 18, 2017 Report Posted February 18, 2017 I just checked my 48 D24 business coupe. It has 20 holes in the sheet metal under the parcel shelf as you describe. The shelf in my car was replaced by a previous owner with corrugated cardboard wrapped in vinyl to match the upholstery on the seats. There were no clips holding it down, but one clip left in a hole in the sheet metal under the cardboard. It would be interesting to know what the original shelf was made of and how it was finished, and how many clips held it. Anyone out there have a D24 with an intact original parcel shelf? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 18, 2017 Report Posted February 18, 2017 on the forward edge of the package tray look for a center hole..then go to the ends near the 'c' pillars and locate those holes....now you will select the two holes between each end and middle that are the same distance for symmetrical look when fitted...the Plymouth business coupe package is also mounted in similar fashion and also utilizes 7 clips and they are equal distance left and right from the center hole...see if this will get you the pattern you wish..you may also start from the middle and measure three equal holes to the left and again to the right...you will find a pattern....also if you use a slightly thicker material and also pad and cover this with material, you may wish to investigate the use of a slightly longer body clip as the original ones are often a bit lacking in ability to fully engage and retain the panel. Restoration Specialties sells these longer trim fasteners. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted February 18, 2017 Report Posted February 18, 2017 Seven clips as mentioned are used. Only around the curved areas towards the ends and glass side of the package shelf as shown. 1 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 18, 2017 Report Posted February 18, 2017 Bob, is that a business coupe? Quote
busycoupe Posted February 18, 2017 Report Posted February 18, 2017 Bob, is that package shelf made of fiber board? Is it painted, or covered with a type of fabric? Thanks for posting the pictures. Dave Quote
rb1949 Posted February 19, 2017 Report Posted February 19, 2017 I'd venture to say the material is the same as the door/kick panels. Check a local upholstery shop. Quote
49D-24BusCpe Posted February 19, 2017 Report Posted February 19, 2017 Bob, Seeing the exterior stainless window molding, I guess the real question is; Is it a Chrysler or DeSoto Business Coupe? Walt Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted February 19, 2017 Report Posted February 19, 2017 It's a 1946 NewYorker Business coupe... Quote
