tom'sB2B Posted September 24, 2016 Report Posted September 24, 2016 There is a terrible metal on metal scraping noise coming from my crankshaft pulley or possible behind the chain case cover. Can't find anything visibly wrong yet. Anyone have any suggestions? Quote
P15-D24 Posted September 24, 2016 Report Posted September 24, 2016 Is the timing indicator pointer bent and hitting the pulley? Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted September 24, 2016 Report Posted September 24, 2016 Tom; Does the sound change any when you step on the clutch or release it? Have you tried squirting some oil behind the pulley to see if it goes away for a while? Jeff Quote
Don Coatney Posted September 24, 2016 Report Posted September 24, 2016 Install a new fan belt and see if the noise is still there. Quote
tom'sB2B Posted September 24, 2016 Author Report Posted September 24, 2016 I greased the water pump pulley. removed the belt. checked the generator pulley. the noise is coming from the crank pulley. No change with clutch in or out. Timing pointer not rubbing. seems like pulley is rubbing bottom portion of engine mount, not sure how that could happen but I cant get in there close enough to see. Don Coatney Posted September 24, 2016 Report Posted September 24, 2016 Has your front engine mount collapsed? Any sign of scrape marks on the pulley? Quote
tom'sB2B Posted September 24, 2016 Author Report Posted September 24, 2016 So I sprayed some wd40 were the pulley and bottom of the engine mount come together. The pulley is definitely rubbing the engine mount. Hmmm. Quote
tom'sB2B Posted September 24, 2016 Author Report Posted September 24, 2016 I guess I'll have to jack up the engine and replace the rubber engine mount. Quote
tom'sB2B Posted September 24, 2016 Author Report Posted September 24, 2016 Any suggestions on how to do it will be appreciated. Thank you Quote

JBNeal Posted September 25, 2016 Report Posted September 25, 2016 I have replaced them by putting a 2x6 under the oil pan (not on the drain plug), lifted the engine with a floor jack on that lumber, high enough that the load is off the motor mount, removed the nuts from the mount studs, then pulled the mount out to replace. You can also remove the floating power bracket from the frame with the engine lifted to get better access to the mount and for better access for cleanup. I also take the water pump pulley off for accessibility 2 Quote
