trunk latch help

I'm sure its been covered a million times, but can anyone tell me or give me a closeup pic of the type of clip that holds the trunk lever on the inside of my p15, the guy had the whole thing disassembled and laying in a box, and I can't find any clip or holder for the handle once it slides through the mechanism but the way its slotted it looks like it takes a c clip, Also is there a spacer or rubber between light housing and the handle because it seems awfully loose now

As far as I know the 46-48 cars use the same type of setup as my Oz 1940 Dodge or what its based on the 1940 US Plymouth, that is a tubular steel ferrel that has a "lip", the ferrel is installed onto the handle shaft and then crimped from both sides against the diecst part of the handle.......to remove it you either grind the crimped area out to allow the ferrel to be gently wiggled off the handle shaft, some have said they were able to wiggle the ferrel sufficiently to remove it whilst not having had to grind out the crimped area........so I'd be looking in the pile of bits in the box for a small, approx 1/2" long by approx. 1/2" diameter tube with a slight lip or flared end.........don't have any pics tho................andyd

I do not think there is a spacer between handle and housing. (none on my salvage part)

 

If you have not already tried it, I think you will find that 90% of what you see as "loose" will be eliminated when the handle, and housing are mounted with the handle shaft  in the trunk latch.

 

There is a spring washer behind the crimp ferrule, but without being installed in the trunk latch it does little to eliminate "loose".

OK so call me a little slow, is the "crimp ferrel" the round thing in the picture? if so how do you crimp it when its all installed ? because my handle just slides right in and out of that thing

OK looking at the post with the door handle I think I get it, the handle is supposed to not come out of the outer chrome part, not the part that bolts inside with the flipper, my handle doesn't have that part on it, its either broken or cut off, so I guess I'll just stick it through the inner latch part then put a small hose clamp on it and use it gingerly

You may find that there will not be enough shaft to put a hose clamp on.

 

The pic that I posted was just to show where it ended up. I don't think the shaft extends that far.

 

I suppose you could weld/braise some square stock to the end to make it longer.  Drill a hole, and use a cotter pin, or roll pin.
