Conn47D24 Posted July 14, 2016 Report Posted July 14, 2016 (edited) A little help please. My " before " photos missed this piece before removal. I've been working on the firewall / engine compartment area. Can someone tell me ( photo helpful) where this belongs ? Appreciate and / all help. Thanks ! Clay Edited July 15, 2016 by Conn47D24 Quote
Young Ed Posted July 14, 2016 Report Posted July 14, 2016 That looks like the piece that goes dead center and supports the speedometer cable. 1 Quote
pflaming Posted July 14, 2016 Report Posted July 14, 2016 When all else fails I start matching bolt holes, it doesn't take long, look for the hole pattern and go for it. Also I look up like engines on google, I go to images and find a lot of answers and ideas. Good luck. Sounds like Ed is on the correct track. 1 Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 14, 2016 Report Posted July 14, 2016 That looks like the piece that goes dead center and supports the speedometer cable. If so it must be so far down I cannot get a good photo. 1 Quote
desoto1939 Posted July 14, 2016 Report Posted July 14, 2016 It might be a bracket to hold the wire that goes from the starter to the sisson electric choke. Just a thought. ALso look for a hole on the firewall to see if there is a threaded section. This is to hold some wire or lead to another piece in the engine compartment. How about the drain hose from the cowel vent and would be located on the firewall on the left side of the firewall in back of the manifold. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com 1 Quote
_shel_ny Posted July 14, 2016 Report Posted July 14, 2016 A 1948 D24 speedo cable bracket can be seen here in the upper right just below the throttle cable. 1 Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 14, 2016 Report Posted July 14, 2016 The bracket on my 1948 D-24 is much smaller and not currently in use. 1 Quote
Conn47D24 Posted July 14, 2016 Author Report Posted July 14, 2016 Thank you all for info and photos. I'll see how it lines up with the speedo cable. :-) Quote
Conn47D24 Posted July 15, 2016 Author Report Posted July 15, 2016 Mystery Solved ! Speedo cable bracket is correct. Located on frame, under passenger side toe kick floor pan. Took a while to dig through all the photos I've taken. Thanks again all. Clay 1 Quote
casper50 Posted July 15, 2016 Report Posted July 15, 2016 Maybe mine's been relocatedd but this is where it was when I got it. 1 Quote
Conn47D24 Posted July 15, 2016 Author Report Posted July 15, 2016 Don, I added it to the original post at top . Quote
Conn47D24 Posted July 15, 2016 Author Report Posted July 15, 2016 As I look closer at this photo, taken after the engine and trans removed. It appears that this bracket may well have been attached to the bell housing or trans. Once all back in I'll make some sense out of it. Thanks again all. Quote
Conn47D24 Posted July 15, 2016 Author Report Posted July 15, 2016 That one on top of the water pump is holding a fuel line ? The one I'm chasing was attached to my Speedo cable, and a little different. Just have to wait to see where it passes the bell & trans. :-) Quote
JD luxury liner Posted July 16, 2016 Report Posted July 16, 2016 I think that it is for the e brake cable. Quote
