Tubeviper
I need to get the proper front and rear bumper for my 1942 Dodge "Job Rated" Pickup, I have found a source for new bumpers and before spending $1155, I wanted to make sure they are correct. DCM Classics has the parts and as far as I can tell, I need the following parts: 1) B-524 Front Bumper SKU : B-524 Finish : Bare Steel, Year : 1941-1947 2) B-524-IBB Inner front bumper brace SKU : B524-IBB 3) B-524-LPB Licence Plate Bracket SKU : B524-LPB 4) B-523 Kit - Rear Bumper, Brackets, Bolts SKU : B-523 Kit These may be seen at: https://dcmclassics.com/body-parts/386-b-524-front-bumper-coming-soon.html#/finish-bare_steel/year-1941_1947 https://dcmclassics.com/body-panels-repair-panels-mountsbolt-kits/416-b-524-ibb-inner-front-bumper-brace.html https://dcmclassics.com/body-parts/404-b-524-lpb-licence-plate-bracket.html https://dcmclassics.com/body-panels-repair-panels-mountsbolt-kits/383-b-523-kit-rear-bumper-brackets-bolts.html#/finish-bare_steel Are these parts correct? Are there any additional parts that I'll need? Thanks!
jeffsunzeri
The front looks correct and needs the brace, which also looks correct. There was no such thing as an original rear bumper for these trucks. The only version that came with a rear bumper was the panel truck. The bumper they are offering looks OK, and expect that you'll likely have to drill and fit the whole unit with brackets to your truck. Original front bumpers in somewhat straight but well-rusted condition with the inner brace will bring $500 and up when you can find one. The panel trucks came standard with it but I've always heard it was optional on the other trucks. The one I have on my truck came off a pickup in the junkyard and Dads 46 had one on it when he bought it.
Larry Leibhart
In 1942 a rear bumper was an option on pickups for $7.
jeepinchris
I would like to add a rear bumper on my 42 as well. Mine did not come with on originally. Not sure it is worth 500 though.

Somewhere here I posted a ford or chevy bumper that is much cheaper and looks quite close to the original.

Tubeviper
Thanks guys, I'll go ahead and place the order then, fit it all on my truck, take the bumpers off and have them chromed and put it all back together. I may have some questions as I do this and then I'll post some photos with the new $1855 worth of new chromed bumpers! Oh and by the way, would chrome be original? If not, what was the original finish? Thanks!
Reg Evans
They were painted argent silver.
Tubeviper
They were painted argent silver. So maybe I can save some money. I do want to go original on my truck but I was thinking chrome would look good. What's everyone think? Argent Silver or chrome? And could I please get a paint color code on that factory original Argent Silver?

I was thinking at one point of putting my current front bumper on the back of my truck. What's everyone think of that? Does it appear to be "close enough"? http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e234/tubeviper/1942%20Dodge%20WC/42d1_zpszy3zp9xp.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e234/tubeviper/1942%20Dodge%20WC/42d3_zpsmv9e36nw.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e234/tubeviper/1942%20Dodge%20WC/42d2_zpsi2yrdl1h.jpg Thanks!

Dad just went and asked for argent silver. Also I know the fronts were argent I'm not sure if the backs were silver or black.
Reg Evans
Tubeviper, Yes,it does look more like a rear bumper. That's what I'd do and then buy one of the repro's with the point for the front. Beautiful truck !
Brent B3B
Hi Dave, last year at a local "cruise in" there was a 42' the owner had his original front bumper on the front and a re pop front bumper on the rear. when I asked him about it, he said I was the only person to call him on it..... point is not to many people would give it a second thought. I think I only did, because you had mentioned it when we met for the infamous Safeway oil filter sale I agree beautiful truck!
Tubeviper
Hi Brent! Thanks for the deal you gave me on the oil filter canister!. It lives in this truck. So for the bumpers, here is what I'll plan to do. If there are any objections, please let me know about them ASAP. Parts are from DCM Classics 1) Connect a B-522 rear bracket kit to the rear of my truck 2) Attach the current front bumper to the rear bumper brackets. 3) Keep the color of the now rear bumper powder coated gloss black 4) Mount the B-524-IBB to the front of the truck. 5) Mount the B-524 front bumper to the front of the truck. 6) Ensure fit 7) Remove front bumper and have it powder coated in Argent Silver 8) Reinstall front bumper. Thanks,
Young Ed
Sounds good to me. Only tragic part I see is having to drill holes and patch holes(or have extra holes) in that beautifully painted front bumper. Couple shots of OEM rear bumpers
Brent B3B
good plan Dave! epoxy those holes? I like your truck too Ed, Is that the very first U-Haul hitch in that 3rd photo? what was the rating on that bad boy?

The tragic part is the hitch was cut right through the bumper. Required quite the patch!
Dave72dt
There was a Pilothouse in MN that had a chrome rear bumper from a Ranger. Looked pretty good on it, You can usually buy one for less than having yours chromed. I believe he put the truck up for sale a couple years ago. Should be some pics on the forum somewhere. Personally, curved bumpers on the back of a straight box look wrong to me and I think the factory bumpers sit too far back and to far down, kind of a soggy diaper look, JMO, which is why I'm going to make my own and why my factory bumper is now on someone else's truck.
Merle Coggins
I believe you are thinking of Dennis Sullivan's truck. It did have a Ranger bumper, but as I recall he found a correct bumper and front frame horns and converted it back. And I happen to know that your old bumper lives happily on it's new truck. Tubeviper
I have been thinking that perhaps the bumper on the front of my truck is too wide in order to make a good looking rear bumper. Its 6 1/8" wide and from what can tell, the correct bumper was more like 4.5" wide. Could someone please confirm that width? Does anyone agree that a 6 1/8" is too wide to look correct with this truck? Thanks!
Tubeviper
I have the rear bumper pretty well figured out, what I need to get, do, etc. However, I don't have the front bumper figured out very well, how the front bumper and bumper mount or even if the front frame horns are correct. Here are some photos should anyone have some input or words of wisdom: http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e234/tubeviper/IMAG1896_zps0vhir8vo.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e234/tubeviper/IMAG1899_zpsqvw9wfxj.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e234/tubeviper/IMAG1898_zpspxuotkuu.jpg
Young Ed
Looks correct. The top of the bumper bolts to those 4 holes. There is a spacer that bolts to the bottom of the frame and then to the bottom of the bumper.
Tubeviper
Could someone please confirm or correct my impression of the proper bumper colors? Rear Bumper - Was a $7 option was usually painted the same color as the body. Front Bumper - Argent Silver Was chrome not put on these trucks ('42) due to previous design or did the start of WWII have something to do with it? In which year did Dodge start chroming pickup bumpers? Thank you!
