I have wrassled and wrassled this car and i just couldnt figure it out.

I've tried 3 different distributors, 3 different sets of points (1 new set, 2 clean sets), 2 different capacitors, 2 different stock coils...

and I still couldnt get it reliable. It doesnt make sense, its all simple crap but yet, she refused to fire off easily cold and never warm or hot. Leave ya stranded and  was done with it and the light I saw was a pertronix module and matching coil.

I had another distributor so I built it on the bench, yanked the points distributor and dropped in a distributor full of happiness.

Its NEVER started so nicely, its NEVER ran so smoothly and its a joy to hop in and turn the key and KNOW its gonna start.

I am no way affiliated with pertronix and I know some will come in here and say you should of tried "this, because pertronix is the devil!"

but I'm telling you, there is no way I'd go back to points, when this module craps out, I'll buy another....wow what a difference it makes!

wooooo-hooooooooooooo so happy she is reliable again.

I'm for electronic ignition! My 52 will get converted. They stopped using points, condensers and ballast resistors for a reason. Lol

If your still 6v, get yourself a optima 6v battery. Them babies spin them over like 12v. Added plus is no acid eating up your car as its a dry cell. Summit has a good price and fast shipping. They're also an optima approved dealer.

wild huh.

anyways, I tagged the thread so if anybody is on the fence and searches for pertronix info in the future, they will see my personal results with the conversion.

I posted because with all the people, myself included having hot start issues and no start issues intermittently, this solved my issues plain and simple, my car has never started nor ran better. Its completely hidden under the cap so for those wanting to keep original looks, here ya go, electronic ignition hiding in a points distributor.

just some more data for the folks like myself that search subjects before doing them.

Amazon 112.59 & 2 day free shipping if you have prime membership. I also found them at Streetside auto, same price & free shipping also. I believe Amazon gets them from Streetside. Greatest move I've made for starting.

Anybody here install a pertronix kit on a gyromatic equipped car? Had a mechanic install one on my 52 coronet. Now the trans doesnt down shift on its own. If im stopped at the light, shift to neutral & then back to driving range, it will be in 1st like it should. I've just been shifting to low range if im at a rolling stop & need that extra power to get moving, then shift back to driving range

Petronix is great for the 6v however if you're on 12v I highly recommend stovebolts Mopar mini hei.
