plymouthcranbrook Posted December 31, 2014 Report Posted December 31, 2014 Just a few years ago I sent a check to a guy in Pennsylvania for a brake drum for my 52. Met him on Bill Ward's old "Old Plymouths Forum". Couple of weeks later, here it comes, in good shape and just as he promised. I bought three or four other items from him for about a year or so and then didn't need anything else. i am so old I can easily remember going to a stranger's house with $500-$1000 in my pocket to see a car. Now I am not liking the idea of Craig's List. What this says about where we are as a nation is self evident. And I don't like it. 1 Quote

Dave72dt Posted December 31, 2014 Report Posted December 31, 2014 There were a fair share of conmen years ago. Difference now is you don't get to put a face to them and technology has made given them better access. 1 Quote
AlDeBear Posted January 2, 2015 Report Posted January 2, 2015 (edited) Send the guy a reply. He may be legit. http://www.whitepages.com/name/David-W-Green/Lawrenceburg-TN/ax34136 https://www.google.com/maps/place/Loretto,+TN+38469/@35.1403912,-87.2465083,9z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x8862d138532dbf6d:0xa376c7ddd0f86e9e I did reply Don. IAfter, while reading this thread, the format of the message is so like that several others have posted that I began wondering about it. That would not for sure make it a scammer. The classifieds are available for viewing by guests. Guest can not contact you via P15D24 reply. Your email contact information is available for guests, so a guest, or a member can actually contact you directly. That said, it could still be a scammer, but that's your call. I didn't know guests could access members email addresses? OR members for that matter, unless the email has been posted in a thread previously? I looked at my own 'profile' here and did not find my own email address or that of the few member profiles I looked at out of curiosity. I was under the impression members email privacy & security is, in part, the purpose of the p15-d24 messaging system? Did I overlook something?? Thanks, Larry Edited January 2, 2015 by AlDeBear Quote

Tom Skinner Posted January 3, 2015 Report Posted January 3, 2015 Gents, I'm not trying to be a know-it-all or endorse any business' in particular - but here goes. Only Trust reliable Sources like DVAP (Desert Valley Auto Parts) if you like junk yards, or Andy Bernbaums, Antique Auto Cellar, or Robert's if you like Vintage Parts Houses, or Ebay (where sales and PayPal are monitored as well as feedback). Only then will you have some sort of assurance of accountability from reliable businesses or sources. Singular lone wolf parts guys, that can't provide upfront phone numbers, addresses, and pictures of their parts just can't be trusted. For them to prey on us Forum Guys is understandable, however, now that we are warned, they should not have any foot hold anymore. It is a pity that no one seems to be able to trust individuals anymore. If they are well known Forum Members with a respectable post history, then, I could trust them. Anybody else gets to "talk to the hand" as Old Arnold Schwrzenegger would say in the Terminator movies. Thanks for the heads up. Tom 1 Quote
