Npence Posted October 11, 2014 Report Posted October 11, 2014 I started wiring my truck up today to get the brake lights and turn signals working. Was able to get one tail light to turn on with the headlights. Have been unable to figure out the front parking lights turn signals. Looks to be a 7 wire switch. Only have one wire going to front turn signals. Does anyone have a schematic on how to wire these lights up. And how does the tail lights work when u hit the brakes? Quote

Npence Posted October 11, 2014 Author Report Posted October 11, 2014 How do you know what side of the battery goes where. Quote
DJ194950 Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 Red from the turn signal wire goes to the Normally open terminal of the brake switch wire, tie into that wire where closest to the turn signal controller , or carry to the switch itself. Battery wire from the flasher unit I would hook to the Ign. power at the switch or tie into a wire that has power only when the ignition switch is is the On position or maybe the best would be the accessory terminal of the switch so as to have 4 way flashers for parking when needed, switch in access. position.and also in Ign position that way. Other thoughts?? DJ Quote
Npence Posted October 12, 2014 Author Report Posted October 12, 2014 Where is the brake switch located in a 49 b1b truck. Also someone added a electric fuel pump but put it on a toggle switch can I put that on the acc switch on the ignition. Quote
Npence Posted October 12, 2014 Author Report Posted October 12, 2014 Was thinking about turning my parking lights into my turn signal lights. What bulb will I need to do that. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 First you have to change out the socket so that it will accept a dual filament bulb. When I changed mine I found these light sockets at a local parts store The old sockets are just soldered into the housing. I heated them until the solder melted and I could push the sockets out. . I soldered the new ones in place and gave them a fresh coat of paint. They've been working great. Since the glass lenses are clear I needed amber bulbs but they don't exist in 6 volt. I found some 6 volt LED bulbs from SuperBrightLED.com that have been working great. Merle 1 Quote
DJ194950 Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 Merle, What did you use as your heat source to remove the old solder and redo as there is a lot of metal to get hot enough to solder?? DJ Quote
Merle Coggins Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 Hand held propane torch. It was like sweating a plumbing joint. Quote

One question though what kind of fitting go on the wires that go to the brake switch on the master cylinder? basically "bullet" connectors. They go over the posts, many of the connections in these trucks are "bullet" style, be it male or female versions. Quote
Npence Posted October 14, 2014 Author Report Posted October 14, 2014 Picked some up today. Hooked the brake light up to the master cylinder was unable to test them since I have the front brakes all tore apart. But will try them out tomorrow. Quote
