Paul Hatfield Posted October 2, 2014 Report Posted October 2, 2014 I pulled out the drivers side sun visor from the '48 truck cab I recently purchased. It cleaned up very well. On the passenger side, only the chrome bracket remained. Is this the passenger side bracket folks have been looking for? Paul Quote
B1B Keven Posted October 2, 2014 Report Posted October 2, 2014 Beautiful visor!! It's the whole arm folks need. Not sure how to make the passenger side work? Quote
Paul Hatfield Posted October 2, 2014 Author Report Posted October 2, 2014 (edited) Here is a photo of the back side of the drivers side bracket. There is a cotter pin above a washer and below that a spring. This forces the arm up into the bracket. I believe that if the cotter pin was removed, the arm and visor would switch over to the passenger bracket. Paul Edited October 2, 2014 by Paul Hatfield Quote
pflaming Posted October 3, 2014 Report Posted October 3, 2014 I sent a complete arm and mount to someone in the Great Lakes area some two years ago. I don't recall to whom. At that time someone was thinking of cutting out a bunch but that idea must have gone long dormant. The passenger side visor on a '56 Dodge works just fine. That is what I have on my truck. Quote
Todd B Posted October 3, 2014 Report Posted October 3, 2014 There is clearly a left and right bracket, Quote
Paul Hatfield Posted October 3, 2014 Author Report Posted October 3, 2014 Now if I could find some more of that material (vinyl?), I'd make up a passenger side visor! Quote
B1B Keven Posted October 3, 2014 Report Posted October 3, 2014 They used to use that vinyl on school bus seats. Internet search? Quote

ggdad1951 Posted October 3, 2014 Report Posted October 3, 2014 Paul I was the one thinking about making the mounts but it all fell apart due to lack of desire Quote
Paul Hatfield Posted October 6, 2014 Author Report Posted October 6, 2014 The bracket is something I could also get made. My company has a small aluminum foundry producing sand cast aluminum parts. However, the up front cost would be tooling and match plates, then the cost of making the casting, then the machining for the back side and holes, and then the chrome work. Not something that could be sold for what people would be willing to pay unless it also fit a Ferrari! Guess I am lucky to have one myself, and perhaps some day another drivers side visor with the same vinyl will show up. It would easily transfer over to the passenger side bracket, giving me a nice pair. -Paul Quote
ggdad1951 Posted October 6, 2014 Report Posted October 6, 2014 Paul, you hit the nail on the head. I have the later version (B3/B4) base modeled in pro-E but it just doesn't make sense $$ wise to make 20 for the machining time. Than you also have to make the arm, metal mount plates (on the arm and on the visor itself) and it just starts to spiral out of control for the $$ people are willing to spend on a visor. Quote

Paul Did you decide if you could make a passenger side visor from a drivers side? Quote
Paul Hatfield Posted October 6, 2014 Author Report Posted October 6, 2014 I believe it would be very easy to do on these early visors. Simply remove one cotter pin and pull the visor arm out of the bracket. Second step would be to slide it into the correct passenger side bracket and insert the pin above the spring and washer. -Paul Quote
ggdad1951 Posted October 7, 2014 Report Posted October 7, 2014 no you cannot, the angles are all wrong. The arm should be at an angle to the base trying to swap them doesn't work. Quote
