Though my car is 10 years older, same difference. I started out with 3" blocks & the original 70+ year old sagging springs. Was fairly low, but the scrub line was below the rim & ran it this way for a couple years. Then I bit the bullet & bought a pair of Posie's 3" lowered rear leaf springs & it was a bit higher than with the 3" blocks and old springs. I removed a couple leafs....still not low enough for my taste, so I cut my 3" blocks down to 1" and installed those. It's about as low as I can go without bottoming out on the stops or going with a "C" notch (maybe in the future). My front has parallel leafs also & I was just going to remove a couple leafs from the stock set-up, but 1 of the eyes was broken off, so ended up having a spring shop make up a set, slightly lowered, which ended up in a slight taildragger stance (which I like a lot), but I wanted the front a little lower, so I removed a couple leafs & this is where I'm at now.

**EDIT** Here's a link to a thread I forgot about....should help a little:http://p15-d24.com/topic/33585-new-ways-to-lower-the-rear-end/

Round,....like a "U".  Can't even picture a square  U-bolt.

If you remove a leaf and use 3" blocks you surely will bottom out severly.

Mine are round, but flattened (factory) as they round the axle, not sure about other years....mine's a '38. New longer u-bolts will come with your blocks, but save all the "take-off" parts.

Here's what my 52 looks like with stock front springs and 3" blocks in back. Since this pic was taken, I cut a coil from the front springs which dropped that 1-3/4". Now I kinda want the back a little lower but will live with it until I re-do the exhaust (I would scrape the tailpipe when going in/out steep driveways.

Mine sits up like a truck, My last car was a 51Merc, I like lowered cars when it compliments the factory body lines and accentuates the profile. These cars sit up high from the factory and had Bias ply tires. They are horrible for body roll and frankly clumsy.Everyone has their own opinion and style but mine is and always will be low and slow.I want the back lower then the front just a bit.I will post pics when it's done.

Damn good looking car & I agree on the stance......definitely would look better lower......in MY opinion.

I'll throw this in here, but I really should put it in the other thread.  I put the posie 3' drop springs in the back of my 40 as well as 3" blocks.  Up front I've got the Moog Coils, uncut.  It sits the same in back as it did with the old springs and 3" blocks.  The front its sky high.  The previous owner had torched the front coils and killed them.  I've got the Fatman dropped uprights to throw in the front once the I get the brakes working.....

I'm going to look into shorter shackles in the back when I get a chance.  Otherwise its time to pull some leafs.  Once I get the dropped uprights for the front, I'll lose my tail dragging stance and that is a must.

watch the shackle length..get them too short and the spring eye will bottom out to the frame ..your shackles is what allows the rearward movement of the axle on compression..you do not want them bottoming out and causing/adding to wrap/hop as the axle is going to deflect one way or another..of course no heavy loads or real heavy acceleration and these factors will not really come into play..

Thanks, I was wondering what effects the shorter shackle would have, that makes complete sense.  I was thinking maybe an inch.  If I need more than that, then I'll pulll a leaf or two.  Or just 4 link it.....

Bmartin, what size tires are you running and does the 40 and 48 have the same suspension? you can tell that your before pic was lower in the front before the moog springs but I dig your current taildragger stance especially if it had skirts!!

taildraggers...what a concept...it is so much an improvement in ride and stability that the car markers around the world stopped all traditional design and went with this look...oops...reality check...they did not ...you see a lot of modern taildraggers out there today..they called production cars with failed air bag suspensions..too much of any thing looks out of proportion after a bit...too high in front...too low in back..to high in back...to low altogether and or too high altogether..some got to live on the edge and seem to always buck the mainstream...and I think this alone is the very reason for a particular build...to stand apart..

I still do not understand the fascination with lowering a car. For some looks must exceed ride comfort and ground scraping but not for me. I agree to disagree.

I'm with Don on this one.

And this one should cheese off almost everyone.

self propelled drag for leveling cornfields after spring plowing..attach set of harrows and you got quite the combo..oh be sure the ground is a bit dry...or else keep the two horse power rig hitched at the ready..

I'm running a 6.5X16, a rather tall tire.  But I love the look and the extra whitewall.  I think the suspensions on the 40 and 48 and very similar.  The entire thing needs to go down, front and back.  It actually had a little bit of the tail dragger look before, but its much more pronounced now.
