bluebanshee Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 (edited) Purchased the truck last fall and hope to have it back on the road by then. Every panel except the hood, doors and cab had putty or rot. Non-stock items: 8.8 explorer axle Scarebird front disc conversion 68' D100 master cylinder (dual port) t5 trans Mazda bench seat Dual carter carbs Split exhaust HEI ignition Still need: Gas tank Bed wood Basecoat Edited August 7, 2014 by bluebanshee Quote
bluebanshee Posted August 7, 2014 Author Report Posted August 7, 2014 Bed still has quite a bit of repair yet to be done. I've used a 4x4' panel of 16 gauge sheet metal and several plates so far. Front sheet metal is in epoxy and doors, bed and tail gate will be blasted once I get them prepped. Quote
B1B Keven Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 Cool truck!! Welcome. Keep us updated. Quote
bluebanshee Posted August 7, 2014 Author Report Posted August 7, 2014 (edited) Starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel with project. Truck currently runs and drives. Wont get far with the half gallon tank. Found a decent tailgate for $50 and had the usual rust holes. The old one was well used and full of small holes. Someone decided they would put wood strips on the bed and drill holes all over the place. Bed will have all stainless hardware, strips and chains. Have not decided on color but probably key lime green as I already have a quart. Clears and primers are all SPI. Edited August 7, 2014 by bluebanshee Quote

pflaming Posted August 11, 2014 Report Posted August 11, 2014 What vehicle did those seats come out of. That is a very nice truck, welcome and do keep us informed. My truck has lots of 'optional' holes in the tail gate also, I just think of them as "labor savers", I find something that fits a hole pattern, I buy it and life is good. Quote
bluebanshee Posted August 11, 2014 Author Report Posted August 11, 2014 Thanks for all the welcomes. Truck is a 57 and seats are from an early 90s Mazda truck. I didn't even look at the door tag. I will update as project progresses. Quote
bluebanshee Posted September 5, 2014 Author Report Posted September 5, 2014 Got the bed sand blasted and in epoxy. About 1/2 way done with the final body work. Bed doesn't have to be perfect as I will do a spray liner as it will be a working truck. Mounted a fuel cell since I couldn't find a tank. Aluminum mounts with stainless hardware. Should have some aluminum channel to do the bed supports tomorrow. Quote
ggdad1951 Posted September 5, 2014 Report Posted September 5, 2014 welcome! Looks like you are a good way into the project already! Quote
bluebanshee Posted September 6, 2014 Author Report Posted September 6, 2014 I still need to find a better rear bumper. Found a straight aftermarket one for $200 unless there is something cheaper/better out there. http://oldpickupparts.com/item.php?INV_ID=181 Quote

bluebanshee Posted September 14, 2014 Author Report Posted September 14, 2014 (edited) Parts are starting to get some color. Edited September 14, 2014 by bluebanshee 1 Quote
pflaming Posted September 15, 2014 Report Posted September 15, 2014 Are you painting or polishing. Seems a good polish would do wonders. Nice truck either ways. Quote
bluebanshee Posted September 15, 2014 Author Report Posted September 15, 2014 Are you painting or polishing. Seems a good polish would do wonders. Nice truck either ways. Think you might have skipped a few posts/pics, parts are beyond polishing. Front and rear fenders had about 3/4 inch of putty, bedside had few square feet of metal replaced, grill was rotted out... Quote
bluebanshee Posted September 17, 2014 Author Report Posted September 17, 2014 Bed is all done. Cab should be painted by the weekend. Only the doors still need repaired. Quote
NiftyFifty Posted September 17, 2014 Report Posted September 17, 2014 Cool colour! I wish I was that far along....Mines going back into hibernate made pretty soon Quote
bluebanshee Posted October 27, 2014 Author Report Posted October 27, 2014 Have all of the body panels painted. Took 5 quarts of DBC base and 2 gallons of clear. Also used 2 gallons of epoxy and 1 gallon of 2K. Wired up the battery (mounted in cab), relay for pump/ignition, and hooked up gas tank. Still need to troubleshoot front brakes, get a rear bumper, get wood for bed. Quote
NiftyFifty Posted October 27, 2014 Report Posted October 27, 2014 2 gallons of clear? That's sounds like way too much....you only really need two coats. Looks good Quote
bluebanshee Posted October 27, 2014 Author Report Posted October 27, 2014 True, but I did 3 coats of clear so that I'd have plenty to cut and buff, if I choose to later. Also, I did both sides of the hood, interior, both sides of door, etc. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted October 27, 2014 Report Posted October 27, 2014 Love that color. That's gonna be one sharp looking truck. Quote
1952B3b23 Posted October 30, 2014 Report Posted October 30, 2014 Sweet truck and nice work. I really like the color too. -Chris Quote
bluebanshee Posted October 31, 2014 Author Report Posted October 31, 2014 (edited) Thanks for the kind words. Bed rails were all rotted out so I made some out of aluminum. First time ever welding aluminum but they didn't turn out bad. Assembly should begin this weekend. Edited October 31, 2014 by bluebanshee Quote
bluebanshee Posted November 10, 2014 Author Report Posted November 10, 2014 Got the rear fenders mounted. Bed is bolted down to the front and rear cross members. Quote
