Plymouthy Adams Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 so when are we going to drop the tank for possible clearing of all obstructing foreign matter from within.. Quote
Lloyd Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 Sounds like it first started and ran with the fuel in the float bowl. Fuel pump never did pick up a prime. Young Ed had mentioned about dribbling a little gas in the carb while turning over to keep it running till the fuel got to the pump. Quote
greg g Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 Go back and put in line filters in the places you cut it and run them for the rest of the season. Quote
linus6948 Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 I`m going to take the advice from Rich and get a 6volt fuel pump, I found the Airtex Part No. E8011 at a fairly close Advance Auto for $38 after applying a current 30% off one item discount coupon, I will probably use it as a primer pump on a rocker toggle switch. Lloyd Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 That should help but Greg has a good point about using inline filters. That would be good in any case. After what I've read here I will be installing a filter and consider using an electric fuel pump as well. Quote
DonaldSmith Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 The Airtex pump comes with a 300 micron filter. Maybe it's 300 microns to protect the workings of the pump. I went to replace the filter with a typical in-line filter, but when I could see through it end-to-end, I decided to get the Airtex G17 filter, that's made for the pump. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 Ok guys I used a take off of 48ply1stcar. I broke the fuel line at the junction midway back to the tank and then at the tank itself. I blew air at each point to include the tank. There were no obstructions. I reconnected all the brake lines and attached a vacuum pump to the fuel line before the pump. Low and behold a couple of pumps and I had fuel coming out. I reattached the fuel line to the pump and she now runs like a dream again. Thank you to every one for your advice and assistance. You didn't connect your fuel line to your brake lines did you? That could be the problem! 1 Quote
