B1B Keven Posted May 28, 2014 Report Posted May 28, 2014 Hey guys, I just swapped a '90 318/904 into my '84 D250 (formally 318/727). Never separated the engine from the trans. Started the motor, added the ATF as needed and no gears! Nothing forward or reverse. Help! Quote
Brent B3B Posted May 28, 2014 Report Posted May 28, 2014 i would have guessed this is a fluid issue if it worked before, was the torque converter drained? but you probably shifted through all the gears and checked the level and topped off as needed already. sorry man. Quote
B1B Keven Posted May 28, 2014 Author Report Posted May 28, 2014 That's what's got me stumped. I drove the '90 up into my driveway and pulled the motor/tranny combo out. Dropped it in my '84 and ..........nothing!! Now I can't even move the shift lever on the side of the trans. LOL Quote
Brent B3B Posted May 28, 2014 Report Posted May 28, 2014 seems we had a 90 cherokee once that had a shift solenoid issue and would not let the selector move..... Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 28, 2014 Report Posted May 28, 2014 do check for binding in that linkage somewhere...drop the linkage and pivot the selector bel crank by hand..if engine running...DO HAVE THE WHEELS off the ground and car/truck stationary in a safe manner...you should be able to move the selector easily...if it does not move..sounds like it is time to see what is hanging up in the valve body.. I'm thinking it's something in the valve body. With the linkage off, I can't move the shift lever. Just don't understand why it happened. Quote
BigDaddyO Posted May 29, 2014 Report Posted May 29, 2014 Didja wack it and bend it when you pulled it out? Quote
48Dodger Posted May 29, 2014 Report Posted May 29, 2014 Might have to check the Rooster comb and see if you got the manual valve stuck. Its in the valve body and gets worn in and can hang up....you just die grind it smooth to allow it to move again. If that's it, it may have been the move that changed the "load" angle on the shifter that's hanging up the shifting.....hope that helps, thou I know it involves pulling the pan and stuff. 48D Quote
B1B Keven Posted May 29, 2014 Author Report Posted May 29, 2014 I finally had to pop the linkage out of the shifting lever to get it to move. Still nothing. I'm having the truck towed over to transmission shop and let them rebuild the trans. Quote
Daliant. Posted June 2, 2014 Report Posted June 2, 2014 Do you have the cooler lines hooked up? They can't just be plugged off. Also the fluid needs to be checked in neutral. Quote
wayfarer Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 Not so sure about using a 904 in a ¾ton truck. I would keep the 727. Quote
